"Just Wondering, Jesus ...
What is the purpose of The Church?"

Dear Members & Friends of Our Savior's Lutheran Church,
Last Wednesday we began the season of Lent at Our Savior's by being reminded of our own mortality and need for repentance of our sins. The blunt words, "Remember you are dust and to dust you shall return" were spoken to each of us as a bold mark of the cross was drawn upon our foreheads with ashes.
Ironically, as we, and countless numbers of Christians around the nation and world, were being reminded of their impending physical death, seventeen teenagers in Parkland, Florida experienced theirs at the hand of a distraught and mentally ill gunman. This photo I referred to in my sermon last Sunday, of a grieving mother who had earlier in the day been marked with the ashes, speaks volumes. I invite you to reflect on this photo for a moment.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) we will consider the question, "Just wondering, Jesus ... what is the purpose of The Church?" The short answer to that question is simply, "To pay attention."
In light of the response to last Wednesday's senseless killings this question is all the more necessary to consider. Christs' Church on earth must respond to human suffering, pain and injustice. The Church must pay attention to what is happening everywhere and consider honestly the ways we are called to respond.
Please join us on Wednesday to ponder this important question.
In the name and spirit of Jesus,
Pastor Dale

Thyme for Grace Meals

Relay for Life Team!
PICTURE a warm, June night, star filled sky, cold beverage, chatting with old friends and making some new friends and raising money for a fabulous charity - all a part of being a member of a Relay for Life Team. Sandy Roslin is looking for members to be a part of her 'Pirates of the Cure-ibbean' Relay for Life Team. Be a team member, sponsor a team member, purchase raffle tickets or luminaries; there are many ways you can contribute. More information to come or you can talk to Sandy Roslin or Sue Ortman for further details.
Help Feed a Family!
During the month of March, Valley Outreach sponsors the "Help Feed a Family" drive. This is the biggest, community-driven food and fund drive of the year for Valley Outreach. You can help by donating non-perishable food items or cash. Cash donations allow Valley Outreach to purchase more food from the local food banks than we can purchase at the grocery store. Look for drop off locations at OSLC beginning March 1st.
