A Note From Your Kindergarten Teachers
Kindergarten Connections
December 8th, 2016
Dear Families,

Happy holidays!  Next week will be very eventful, with lots on our calendars. Thursday, December 15th will be a pajama day for kindergarten. Please send your child to school wearing PJs, PE appropriate shoes and a jacket. Friday, December 16th is Sea Crest's annual Winter Concert celebrating grandparents and special friends.

Grandparents and special friends are invited to the classrooms following the concert to enjoy our holiday celebration with their kindergartner. If you'd like to volunteer to help with our celebration, please sign-up here. Also, please rsvp here to let us know if your child will be bringing grandparents or special friends.

Finally, a special thank you to the Jett family for not only bringing in wood, but also for bringing the power tools and cutting all the wood into smaller pieces for the kindergarteners to use!

Sincerely,

Your Kindergarten Teachers - Team K!

What We Have Been Learning
Ask Your Child About

Talking with you child is the best way to support their learning and the following questions will help you get started.

  • Sight words, guided reading books, and homework, oh my! - Check in with your child.  How is it going? How does it feel to have reading homework?

  • Identifying patterns in math - How do you know when something is a pattern? How do you know when it's not?

  • Using decoding strategies in Reader's Workshop - How do you use your "eagle eye" to figure out words?
Trash-to-Treasure
If you've got these items around the house, please bring them in!
  • Shoe boxes
  • Broken toys, small wheels, or items that could be repurposed as wheels (sets of four or more greatly appreciated)
  • Wood scraps - 2x4s 12" or longer and 3/4" plywood 12" square inches or larger
Reminders
  • We've begun sending home sight words as part of the nightly homework. Tonight and every Thursday, please remove any mastered words from your child's ring and return them loose (and the ring!) in your child's folder so we can replace them with new words.

  • Our school day begins at 8:15 am. Please do everything you can to ensure your child arrives to school at or before this time. Arriving on time allows your child to ease in to the day gracefully. Here are some tips to help. Here are some more tips!

  • Thanks to all of you who have already donated to our Annual Fund! Your donation bridges the gap between tuition and the true amount needed to fund our programs. Kindergarten's parent participation stands at 96%! Thank you, thank you, thank you!  If you haven’t already taken the opportunity to contribute, please click here to make your gift today. We greatly appreciate it!
  • If you are able to walk, bike, or carpool to school on December 16th, please consider doing so - the parking lot will fill up quickly. Please note that we are never permitted to park in areas marked with red paint, on the curb, or in spots specifically designated for residents of our neighborhood.

  • Dismissal will be at noon for the entire school on Friday, December 16th. This can be a challenging time for Kindergarteners who are not accustomed to departing within a crowd. If you'd like to pick up your child early, please come directly to our classroom as early as 11:45.

  • Thanks to all of you who participated in the Adopt-A-Family program! You have made the holidays special for a local family in need.
