A Note From Your Kindergarten Teachers
Kindergarten Connections
November 17th, 2016

Dear Families,

Kindergarten has been enthusiastically preparing for Thanksgiving festivities this week. We have been practicing songs and dances with Dr. Goh and Mr. Cooper, and creating costumes with Mr. Birdsong, and in our classrooms. We are eager to share our learning with you tomorrow . At 11:50 a.m. , we will dance the Turkey Tango in the Think Tank , and enjoy a Friendship Feast all together in Room 3 . Please join us!

In the spirit of Thanksgiving and gratitude, we wanted to take a moment to appreciate all of you for a great many things. Thank you for volunteering to help us in the classroom, thank you for giving us warm words of wisdom and insight about your children, and thank you for being you. This is a remarkable community of which we feel grateful to be connected.

Ask Your Kinder About
Dinner table conversation starters
  • Our Thanksgiving Friendship Feast and Turkey Tango performances. What are you thankful for? (tomorrow)
  • Making repeating patterns in math.
  • Meeting in small groups in Readers Workshop.
  • Using facial expressions to Identify feelings in Friendship Workshop and using those expressions in our own writing in Writers Workshop. How can you tell when someone is feeling happy?

Don't forget!
  • School is closed next week for Thanksgiving Break. We'll be back in session on November 28th.

  • We sent home school pictures in our take-home folders this afternoon. Please continue to check and empty your child's take-home folder daily.
  • Sign ups for our class' Adopt-A-Family are on Track-it-Forward. Donations are due by Tuesday, December 6th. Please leave all donations in Room 3. We need you!
  • Reading homework has started, and we hope it isn't causing any stress! Please remember, if getting the homework done is a challenge, just let us know on the reading log. Our hope is that homework time will be quality family time, when you can celebrate learning together. Please also note: at this very early stage of learning to read, many kindergarten students are not actually decoding - they're reading pictures! This is absolutely okay, and in fact, encouraged!

If you've got these items around the house, please bring them in!
  • Shoe boxes
  • Broken toys, small wheels, or items that could be repurposed as wheels (sets of four or more greatly appreciated)
  • Wood scraps - 2x4s 12" or longer and 3/4" plywood 12" square inches or larger

  • Pinecones and/or acorns for crafting
