Reading with a Firefighter
Grades K-4
Join an Urbandale firefighter as he shares his career with students using a book, video, and showing some of the tools used on the job. He is able to address fire prevention, safety issues and tips with students during the session. There will be time for questions, so teachers and students are asked to come to the session prepared.

Behind the Beat
Grades 3-5
 Use music to explore African American history, from the time of slavery, when African beats were brought to the Americas on large slave ships and spirituals were used to communicate across the fields of plantations. Watch the evolution of ragtime to jazz while studying the Great Migration, Jim Crow laws, and the amazing arts of the Harlem Renaissance. See rebellion in action in Motown music and the Rock and Roll of the Civil Rights movement. If you want to understand history, you just have to look "Behind the Beat".

Zoo Careers
Grades 7-12
Join staff from Des Moines' Blank Park Zoo to learn about what it takes to be a zoo keeper and many other jobs needed to keep things operational.There are animal curators; web designers, folks to keep the plants looking good, marketing staff, special events coordinators and the list goes on and on.

This three part series is designed to help Challenging Behavior Specialists (CBS) implement appropriate Functional Based Assessments (FBA) and to create effective and durable Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) for children who display challenging behaviors.

ICN sessions are provided at NO COST by Iowa Public Television in collaboration with the Iowa Communications Network to PK-12 students and the adults working with or on behalf of PK-12 students in Iowa.
 
How to Register for an ICN Session

 

1. Go to the registration page by clicking "Learn more & register".

2. Read through the registration page, then click on "register here" at the very bottom of the page.

3. Follow the step by step directions.

 

For most sessions, you are welcome to request an ICN room in any school, AEA, or public library in Iowa, so choose one that's most convenient for you. Your request will go to an IPTV scheduler who will then email you back with a confirmation/denial. If you are denied, IPTV is happy to help you find a room that will work.
