Henry's Travels

This week, KBA President and CEO Henry Lackey traveled to the western part of the state to meet with Chad Lampe of WMSK in Murray, Kentucky and Bill Evans of WQXE in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. "Monday night, it's all aboard the Belle of Louisville for a "Love Boat River Cruise"' featuring music by Tony & The Tan Lines."

KBA Now Accepting Nominations
Deadline August 8, 2017 
The KBA is now accepting nominations for the 2017 KBA Awards to be presented during the KBA Annual Conference October 9-10 in Louisville, KY at the Galt House.


To submit a nominee; state the award that you are nominating the person(s) for and give a brief overview of the accomplishments of the individual(s). Your contact information must be included. Nominations can be emailed to Karen@KBA.org, faxed to (502) 848-5710, or mailed to 101 Enterprise Drive, Frankfort KY 40601.    
 
Winners will be announced October 10th at the KBA Annual Conference in Louisville.

The Kentucky Broadcasters Association award winners are selected by a committee appointed by the organization's Chairman and shall be comprised of three representatives of member stations and the sitting executive committee.  Nominations for awards may be made by employees of any member station or by members of the awards committee.
 
Al Temple Award: Presented to those individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the Kentucky Broadcasters Association over an extended period of time.  Their volunteer service is an invaluable part of this organizations success and ability to serve its members. The award is named in honor of the extraordinary service of Al Temple a pioneer secretary-treasurer of the KBA.
 
Kentucky MIC: Hall of Fame Award: Presented to those individuals who have made outstanding personal contributions to the broadcasting profession in Kentucky. Since this award is considered to be the highest award given by the KBA to recognize accomplishments in Kentucky broadcasting, recipients are hereby inducted into the KBA Hall of Fame.
 
J.T. Whitlock: Life Service Award: Presented to members retiring or leaving the profession who have earned perpetual membership and recognition as a result of their contributions to Kentucky broadcasting. Participation in conventions shall be at no cost to recipients of the Life Service Award and their spouse. The award is in honor of a life of service by J.T. Whitlock, longtime KBA Executive Director / Secretary-Treasurer.
 
Ralph Gabbard: Distinguished Kentuckian Award: Given to present or former Kentuckians who have earned fame or acclaim in their field of endeavor and presented in recognition of the value of those achievements and accomplishments to the state and nation.  This award is in honor of distinguished television broadcaster and former Kentucky Broadcasters Association Chairman Ralph Gabbard.

ALL MEDIA INVITED TO THE KENTUCKY HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME RIBBON CUTTING AND TICKETS ON SALE NOW FORTHE INDUCTION CELEBRATION TO BE HELD JULY 22nd-

All broadcasters are invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the opening of the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame (KHSBHF) set for Noon (EST) on Friday, July 21. The facility is located at 212 West Dixie Avenue, Elizabethtown, KY.

The ceremonial opening culminates the $1.7M building project. Elizabethtown Mayor, Edna Berger will be joined by several business leaders, current members of the Hall of Fame, KHSBHF sponsors and civic leaders.  Mayor Berger and Hall of Fame Sports Journalist, Billy Reed, will provide remarks at the ribbon-cutting before opening the doors for all invited guests and media to explore.  The one-of-a-kind facility will be the epicenter of Kentucky basketball and will honor the rich history and cultural significance of the sport in the Commonwealth. 

The Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame (KHSBHF) Induction Celebration is scheduled for July 22
nd at the Historic State Theater in Elizabethtown, KY. This is the sixth annual event.

There will be 18 inductees receiving this honor for the 2017 Centennial Class of the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame and this will conclude the first 100 Inductees. The event will begin at 5:30pm (EST). Tickets are on sale now.

The Induction Celebration begins at 5:30pm with a reception in the Wesbanco Gallery. The inductees and their families will arrive to sign autographs and meet the public. The Pre-Show and Celebration will begin at 7:15pm in the Theater.

You may remember in 2015, Dan P'Pool was the recipient of the JT Whitlock Lifetime Achievement award. Pictured to the left receiving the award from Keith Casebolt.

The KBA learned yesterday that after battling several health issues, Dan is in need of thoughts and prayers from his fellow Broadcasters. Dan is home now in Pikeville, KY.
