Registration for the Maker's Mark Tour is Now Closed!
   
Due to a better than expected response, registration for the Maker's Mark tour during this year's Annual Conference is now closed. The event is filled to capacity.  If you would like to be placed on a waiting list for the tour please email Karen at Karen@kba.org

Furthermore, if you  have already registered for the Maker's Mark tour and cannot attend, it is imperative that you let the KBA know as soon as possible to allow someone on the waiting list to have your reservation. Reminder: The buses traveling from Louisville to Loretto will depart from the Galt House Hotel at 11am sharp on Monday, October 9, 2017.

Separating Fact From Fake News, Tuesday, October 10, 2017, Breathitt Room, 2nd Floor, Suite Tower

Fake News is not just news that somebody wish had not been reported.  It is a real phenomenon that requires journalists to develop news skills to detect it and protect themselves from it.
In this practical interactive session you will:
-Learn how to use hidden digital metadata to discover altered images and documents
-Learn how to use photo comparisons to discover the origin of altered images
-Learn the four key questions that journalists must ask as part of a critical thinking process
-See real examples of how small edits totally change the truth
-We will take legitimate news headlines from mainstream websites and in less than 30 seconds alter them right before your eyes
-You will see how news fakers do their business creating believable fake tweets and social media posts

Bring your smartphone/iPad
You will learn the coolest new stuff you can do on your phone or tablet.  Most of it is free and none of it requires coding skills or more than two minutes of work. Our goal will be for you to learn and USE new tools in this session that you will put into practice on the job during your next shift. 
 
-See a new tool that takes in your video and transcribes it word-for-word with timecode
-Learn how to record and edit video, like a standup or interview, with b-roll on your phone
-See a new tool that allows you to embed audio on a 360 image that you can post on Facebook
-Learn to create stunning graphics in your phone
-See how you can build an interactive map just by ingesting a spreadsheet

One week left to register for free! This is a reminder that all attendees must register individually for the KBA Conference. You may register online or download the KBA registration form and email to karen@kba.org.
 
This conference is a FREE Member Benefit of the KBA! This year, you must register by September 1, 2017. 
At that point, the room block will be closed. If you have not registered by that date, you and/or your station will be charged a $100.00 registration fee per person.
After September 1, 2017, lodging is not guaranteed. We appreciate you adhering to this new policy. When working with hotels, we have deadlines we must meet for food and beverage and meeting space. Your adherence to this guideline will  assist us in having a wonderful 2017 KBA conference.

Wear your Name Badge! 
It is important to wear you name badge at all times while atten ding the KBA conference. You must have your badge to attend any KBA sanctioned events. The Maker's Mark Tour, Cruise on the Belle of Louisville, Bourbon Tasting all require you to wear your badge.  
 


Station Visits

Henry's Travels across the state continued this week in the Eastern part of the state. Accompanied by District 7 KBA Radio Director, Jeff Ray, site visits discussing KBA member benefits were conducted at WLGC-FM in Ashland and WDGG-FM in Huntington, WV.
