Honoring veterans, inspiring students, and preparing for our holiday concert - KCCO's 59th season is in full swing!

KCCO News and Updates
We've had a great start to our 59th season! We kicked off with our Bold, Brass & Brahms concert in October and had a great turnout for our November performances of The American Sound, where we honored veterans for their service. Our outreach committee has also been busy with numerous activities, including the Fourth Annual Instrument Petting Zoo that preceded the November 11th concert. Now we're looking forward to our most popular concert of the season, our holiday concert performances on December 8th and 9th!

Giving Tuesday

As you think about holiday celebrations and holiday shopping, don't forget about holiday or end of season giving!  When you donate to a non-profit such as KCCO, most of your donations are tax-deductible, which makes your donation both generous and a good financial decision!

Did you know that, in addition to cash donations or sponsorships, you can also donate stock or assets to KCCO?  You can donate  IRAs, qualified plans, annuities, Required Minimum Distributions (RMD),  publicly traded stock, securities, mutual funds and other appreciated assets.  If you would like to donate or have any questions about a stock or other asset-based gift, please contact Mark Barone, Edward Jones agent, at 913.451.5927.

Concerts

Our 59th season is off to a great start! It began with our October concert, Bold, Brass & Brahms. We had a full house for both performances of our November concert, The American Sound, as well as a great turnout for the fourth annual Instrument Petting Zoo.

Musician Spotlight

Our musician spotlight is focused this month on Carol Chatelain. Carol has been a member of the orchestra since 1972, has served as concert master since 1975, and has also served as a board member for over 30 years. She holds a master's degree in music education and taught music for over 31 years.

Outreach Activities

Last season our outreach efforts reached a total of 1,486 children (a 60% increase over previous year). So far this season - just since September 15th - we have performed and interacted with over 1,400 children!

This season we also welcomed double bassist Gay Lee Ludwig-Bonney to the KCCO outreach duo of Jennifer Mitchell, violinist, and Don Goldenbaum, violist. We're excited to have her!

Thank You

KCCO would like to thank Band of Angels for their support of KCCO. Band of Angels donated the instruments for this season's Instrument Petting Zoo - which was a huge success! - as well as adecorated cello for our silent auction in December.

Band of Angels is a 501c3 Charity that collects music instruments and provides them to children in need for free so they can join band and orchestra programs. They also provide scholarships for area children to attend summer music camps. Learn more on  their website.

Get Involved

KCCO is able to offer free concerts and outreach activities thanks to generous support from our members and supporters. The more volunteers we have, the more we can do! Whether you're a music-lover who wants to give back, or a student or professional looking for community service opportunities to add experience to your resume, there are a number of ways you can contribute.

Friends of Civic
Joining Friends of Civic is a great way to get involved with KCCO. Friends of Civic members are a fun group that helps support activities like the annual fundraising silent auction, instrument petting zoo, and greeting concert attendees. As a Friends member you'll be a key part of the KC area's cultural scene, you'll be giving back to our audience members, and you'll have the deep appreciation of our orchestra and board members. Mingle with current Friends of Civic members, learn more about the group, and enjoy a pizza feast on August 29th at Atonement Lutheran Church.

If you would like to get more involved with KCCO, or just want to learn more about the opportunities available, get in touch!
