YOU ARE INVITED
A quick reminder that you are invited to join us for our chapel time each Wednesday at 8:45am.  It is an amazing time for us to come together to worship God and be challenged by a message that we can apply to our lives.

In addition, our community time of prayer will start up again in the next week or so.  Please come and join with other parents as they lift up our teachers and students in prayer.  Details to follow....
SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS NEED CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK:
IT'S FREE!!!
We are always incredible grateful for all the parent volunteers that help out in so many ways each year.  If you are planning on volunteering in a capacity that directly works with students at KCS, we will ask you to have a criminal record check completed.  It is a very simply process and it does not cost you any money.  Please do it early, as it does take a bit of time for the check to be completed. Contact our office about how to get it done.
FIELD UNDER REPAIR
Many of you will have noticed that there are some big changes happening to our field.  Our landlord, Evangel Church, has graciously undertaken the task of redoing our field which had become very uneven over time.  It is now levelled and it will be replanted by the middle of the month (we had to wait for the heat to dissipate).  We are very excited that this work is being done, but it does mean that we cannot be on the field for quite sometime so that the seed and new grass can properly take root (sod would have been quicker, but extremely expensive for a field of that size).   In order to help manage the playtime during recess we have made a few changes.
  • Grade Three will be allowed in the alley
  • Intramural Games will start in the gym at lunch
    • Tuesday: Gr. 2 & 3
    • Wednesday: Gr. 4 & 5
    • Thursday: Gr. 4 & 5
  • Kindergarten (as usual) has their own recess time until January
So, over the short-term, there will be some inconveniences, but in the long term, we will have a fantastic new field....such a blessing!
TRAFFIC FLOW
A quick reminder to everyone on the traffic flow and parking situation at our elementary campus:
  • Please ensure that you do not park in the Kid's Corner Daycare parking stalls or beside the church during morning drop-off or afternoon pick-up
  • Remember that there are sections of our parking lot that are one way
  • Lets all do our part in being Me-Third and keeping our kids safe!

A GENTLE REMINDER
The first bell rings at 8:35am.  Please do not come into the school prior to that time as teachers need that time to finish preparations for the day.  Supervision begins at 8:20am in the playground.  Please have your children go around to the playground prior to the first bell as there is no supervision in the courtyard area in the morning.  Finally, after school supervision in the courtyard ends at 3:20.  Please ensure that you pick up your child(ren) prior to that time.
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear KCS Families,

It was so good to see all of the returning families as well as the new ones as we kicked off the 2017-18 school year yesterday morning.  It reminded me how blessed we are to be part of such an amazing community.  How wonderful it is to know that we are able to start off our school year with worship and prayer as a community.  It is so encouraging to hear so many positive remarks from parents about the upcoming school year and know that we are uplifting our teachers and this community as a whole in our conversations and in prayer.  Hearing those comments made me think of the following passage in James chapter three:
A small rudder on a huge ship in the hands of a skilled captain sets a course in the face of the strongest winds. A word out of your mouth may seem of no account, but it can accomplish nearly anything-or destroy it!   It only takes a spark, remember, to set off a forest fire. A careless or wrongly placed word out of your mouth can do that. (The Message)
I am so thankful when we as a community keep these words in mind and model them before each other and especially our children.  How we talk and encourage makes such a difference in the culture of our school.  In addition, I encourage you to spend time with your children praying for our school administration, teachers, office staff, and classmates.  Prayer has such a big impact on our community, and doing it with your children helps them to understand its significance in the spiritual battle that we face.

Thank you so much for being a blessing!

In Christ,

Dan Hein
