KGOU News Director Jacob McCleland at OKSPJ awards banquet May 19
We strive for excellence every single day, but it's nice when our peers recognize our best work. Journalism awards season is wrapping up, and KGOU once again brought home several trophies in two annual contests: the Associated Press Broadcasters and the state chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.

Winning entries were in Investigative, General News, Spot News, Interview/Talk Show, and Government Reporting categories. And for the sixth year in a row, KGOU was named AP's most outstanding radio operation in the Oklahoma-Arkansas region. StateImpact Oklahoma reporters also won top honors; see the full list on our Awards page.

KGOU general manager Dick Pryor was handing out awards at the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence's academic awards banquet, also held this past weekend. Dick filled in as emcee for founder and chairman David L. Boren, honoring outstanding educators and students. The ceremony will be televised on OETA Saturday, May 26 at 8 p.m.
Saying Farewell to Student Broadcaster Storme Jones
man in radio studio
KGOU has the privilege of working with some talented students learning and honing journalism skills as part-time employees at the station; Storme Jones is one such student who has worked with us for two and a half years. You've heard Storme reporting news at midday, writing for our website and covering news from the field, earning some impressive accolades from student and professional organizations along the way.

He's now leaving KGOU to further his educational experience with a summer fellowship at the Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University, and then a semester reporting from Washington, D.C. courtesy of the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation. Good luck, Storme -- we know you'll do great work!

compilation of movie stills
The Memorial Day weekend traditionally marks the arrival of the big movies that their creators hope will proceed to bust blocks for the remainder of the season. NPR's entertainment editors Bob Mondello, Linda Holmes, Glen Weldon and the rest of their team have compiled a list of the summer movies they're most looking forward to and/or expect people to be talking about.
