Happy Spring!

The Kingswood Youth Center continues to thrive, ready for spring after celebrating another wonderful (and quite lengthy) winter in Wolfeboro. The KYC teens spent this snowy season participating in a variety of activities to include volunteering at the Lakes Region Humane Society, going on field trips in the KYC bus, listening to guest speakers, skating at Abenaki, playing music, participating in culinary classes, organizing the KYC thrift store, snow shoeing, sledding, and more!

A popular field trip with members and staff is the weekly visit to the Lakes Region Humane Society in Ossipee. It's a great way for the kids to connect with the animals while volunteering to help with another non-profit organization in the community.

Cooking at the Wolfeboro Inn is another favorite amongst our teens. They are able to work directly with the cooking staff to get a first-hand experience of how an established food business operates. They also get to create and enjoy some delicious food! The kids occasionally bring this knowledge into the KYC kitchen and cook for all of us.

In addition to being busy with all the after school activities, the KYC has been a hub for other community involvement. The KYC and Appalachian Mountain Teen Project (AMTP) have held two successful Teen Nights, the last having a Minute to Win It game theme. The hope is to continue providing teens more opportunities to socialize with their peers in a safe environment. The KYC has also been hosting some of the Global Awareness Local Action (G.A.L.A.) workshops, and continues to be the home for the Wolfeboro Institute of the Arts.

The KYC is fortunate to be located in a community surrounded by such a supportive network for our youth. The KYC is moving forward this spring with a career fair, some experiential science and environmental programs, and many other fun activities throughout April, May and June. Stay tuned for more updates!

As always, thank you for your continued support and interest in the Kingswood Youth Center and our teens. The relationships that we have formed through this organization are not only what make our work possible, but also fun and fulfilling!

Wishing you a beautiful and sunny spring season!

Sincerely,

Pam Sweeney, Executive Director

Introducing our NEW Teen Director!
Mara Lamb

Mara was born and raised in Alaska, where she skied, snowboarded, biked, hiked, camped, swam, fished, kayaked and explored. Mara received her B.A in English Literature from the University of Alaska, Anchorage in 2008. After graduating, Mara traveled around the United States and Southeast Asia before moving to Juneau, Alaska to continue on to complete her Master's Degree in Teaching at the secondary level. Mara has a strong background in working with youth in alternative settings. She worked in Fairbanks as a tutor and counselor for high school students, interned for a year at the alternative high school in Juneau and taught in both the Anchorage and Juneau school districts. Mara worked at a residential treatment facility for teen girls which was some of her most fulfilling and rewarding work.

Mara has lived in Wolfeboro for 2 years and grows to love the community and the state of New Hampshire more and more with every passing day. She and her husband raise pigs and chickens and have 2 dogs. Skiing, hiking, and paddle-boarding have been some of her favorite activities in the area.

Helping teens to identify and nourish their strengths and to empower them through their journey into adulthood is a passion of Mara's. She is so excited to be working for Kingswood Youth Center!

Warm Weather + Friends + Less Snow = Happy KYC Teens
