Happy Spring! The Kingswood Youth Center continues to thrive, ready for spring after celebrating another wonderful (and quite lengthy) winter in Wolfeboro. The KYC teens spent this snowy season participating in a variety of activities to include volunteering at the Lakes Region Humane Society, going on field trips in the KYC bus, listening to guest speakers, skating at Abenaki, playing music, participating in culinary classes, organizing the KYC thrift store, snow shoeing, sledding, and more! A popular field trip with members and staff is the weekly visit to the Lakes Region Humane Society in Ossipee. It's a great way for the kids to connect with the animals while volunteering to help with another non-profit organization in the community. Cooking at the Wolfeboro Inn is another favorite amongst our teens. They are able to work directly with the cooking staff to get a first-hand experience of how an established food business operates. They also get to create and enjoy some delicious food! The kids occasionally bring this knowledge into the KYC kitchen and cook for all of us. In addition to being busy with all the after school activities, the KYC has been a hub for other community involvement. The KYC and Appalachian Mountain Teen Project (AMTP) have held two successful Teen Nights, the last having a Minute to Win It game theme. The hope is to continue providing teens more opportunities to socialize with their peers in a safe environment. The KYC has also been hosting some of the Global Awareness Local Action (G.A.L.A.) workshops, and continues to be the home for the Wolfeboro Institute of the Arts. The KYC is fortunate to be located in a community surrounded by such a supportive network for our youth. The KYC is moving forward this spring with a career fair, some experiential science and environmental programs, and many other fun activities throughout April, May and June. Stay tuned for more updates! As always, thank you for your continued support and interest in the Kingswood Youth Center and our teens. The relationships that we have formed through this organization are not only what make our work possible, but also fun and fulfilling! Wishing you a beautiful and sunny spring season! Sincerely, Pam Sweeney, Executive Director
