A Message from your President:

Welcome Kansas Junior High Rodeo families and student athletes,

The 2011- 2012 year is ready to get kick off. This year brings on some new challenges as we will face a first year as a combined association. The High School Rodeo families, contestants and the High School Board wants to give you a big welcome. We are going to try our best to make sure everything runs smoothly and that your experiences will be positive. I am sure we will encounter a few bumps along the way and we will work them out and continue to strive to have a great rodeo and atmosphere for you. I urge you, that if you have any questions please find or seek out your Junior High Board members and visit with them and keep the communication line open, so we can have things run smoothly. Do not forget to check out the web site, all the information, news, updates and important paper work is all on line. We will have our first board meeting at Greensburg for the Junior High Divison(Time to be announced at a later date). I want to take this time to remind you that we have a great rodeo state here in the state of Kansas and we want to keep that tradition going. I would like to thank all of our contestants for their hard work and dedication to the sport of rodeo. You are our future and you all do awesome job of representing us through out the year. On behalf Junior High Board and myself we are looking forward to meeting you and wish each and everyone of you a great year.

See you in Greensburg.

KJHSRA President

A message from your Secretary

I hope everyone had a great summer and that you are all ready to get back to rodeoing.  Our 2010-2011 KJHSRA team had a great year and we can set goals to achieve the same kind of success.

I am excited to be your new secretary.  Melissa Tetrick retired at the end of last season after many years of service to KJHSRA.  We appreciate all that she has done for the organization.

Call in's for rodeos will follow this format:

The call in date will be 10 days prior to the rodeo.  The call in time on that date will be from 6-9 pm (785-238-7192).  You can also email your entries anytime of the day of call in - UP TO the call in time (6:00 pm).  I prefer email entries because everything is in writing.  If you do not get a confirmation email back, please assume that I did not receive your email and that you are not entered into the rodeo and call in during the appropriate time.  Email address for call in is suzan@ksu.edu.  **Please note the z in suzan**.

At the first rodeo, there will be a sign up book where you can enter for the remaining 2 rodeos for fall if you choose to do so.  That way you do not have to remember to do the call in.

As most of you know, we are now combined with the Kansas High School Rodeo Association.  Our new website will be hosted on the KHSRA site.  The address is www.khsra.net/jrhigh.html.  I will maintain both websites.  Our schedule will be there as well as results and any news items that you need to know.  News items are listed on the tab called Announcements.  These will be both KHSRA and KJHSRA Announcements.  I also post all documents that are related to KJHSRA on the Jr High Docs section. You will find all membership forms, rulebooks, meeting minutes, Horse of the Year and other types of forms like that in this section.

We also have a facebook page.  Instead of maintaining 2 different ones, we will use the KHSRA facebook page.  If you are a facebook user, please find KHSRA on facebook and request to join in as a friend.

There are a lot of changes for this season and some people are apprehensive.  It's going to be GREAT :-).  Let's all pitch in and make this season the best season yet!!

A note on the fund-raiser for this season....  Each member will be required to raise $225.00.  The Jr. High board has not yet determined how we will raise the $225.00, but I will let you know as soon as that has been decided.  There was a note on the Responsbility Agreement Form that said each member had to sell 5 Casey's cards.  Please ignore this as this fundraiser has been cancelled.

 See you in Greensburg,

Suzan Adams

KJHSRA Secretary

A Note from your Student President

Get ready for an exciting season of rodeo! I welcome back every existing contestant and all the new members. We have an excellent secretary, Suzan Adams, and great board members making sure everything is ready to go. This year the High School and Junior High will be combing their rodeos. We will also be traveling to some new arenas at Greensburg and Concordia.

The Kansas team had a victorious year this past year at nationals, ending up third as a state overall. I challenge each and every one of you to set the goal of being on the national team. As we compete, we are the best of the best striving for the success of a strong, champion team in the 2012 nationals. I wish everyone good luck throughout the season.

I am so glad to be your 2011-2012 KJHSRA student president! If you have any questions I would be glad to answer them! Get practiced up and ready for a competitive year of rodeo, and I'll see you at Greensburg!

Tips for New Members & Reminders for Returning Contestants:

  • All members will receive a packet at the first rodeo that will contain their back number, rulebook and misc. forms.  This back number must be worn by contestants at ALL times. Even if you go to the movies or out to eat after the rodeo, you must wear your back number. You are responsible for your back number and will have the same one the entire season.  If you lose your number, you must purchase another one for $10.00 in the rodeo office.

  • All contestants must be in full western attire (with back numbers on) 1 hour prior to the rodeo.  You must remain in western attire until the rodeo is completely over (not just when your events are finished).

  • Parents who are helping their contestant in the arena, must be in FULL western attire.  It is grounds for disqualifying your child, so please comply with this rule.

  • There was a document in your membership packets called the Rodeo Info Sheet.  This sheet contains information about the rodeos such as start times, stock contractors, judges, stall and hookup information, etc.  The information on the sheet can always change, so please check the website for updates to this.  (www.khsra.net/jrhigh.html).  If you lose the Info Sheet and would like to print another one, I always have all the forms on the website under the Jr. High Docs section.

  • The order of events at rodeos is always subject to change up to 1 hour prior to the rodeo.  We try very hard to post the order of events on the website, however, the committees hosting the rodeos and the judges have the right to change this UP TO 1 hour before the rodeo.  Please be at the rodeo on time, just in case your event gets moved to an earlier slot.

  • There will be a rulebook and a Kansas Handguide in your packets at the first rodeo.  Please take the time to read through this as it helps you become familiar with what is expected of you as contestants.  There is also an NHSRA rulebook with much more detail than our Kansas Handguide.

  • Note to team ropers and ribbon ropers - you can only draw for a partner 3 times (not 3 complete rodeos, but 3 times).  This is an NHSRA rule and we can't change it or make exceptions.  There are MANY times we would love to, but we just can't.

  • I would like to thank Trisha Allenbrand for volunteering to mail out the membership packets at her expense.  We started off the season with more expenses than we had money for.  We will all need to pitch in and try to obtain extra sponsorships when possible to ensure that our contestants have awards and travel money this year.  Every little bit helps!  After the first rodeo, I will always have financial information available in the office for you to view.

  • Most important.... if you have questions, email me (suzan@ksu.edu).  I'm always happy to help.  I prefer emails instead of phone calls, but do understand when it is not convenient to email.
