Dear Tau Alumni, Parents, Actives, and Pledges:

I'm delighted to report that construction on the new Residence Hall is on schedule. The elevation and roof are complete and plumbing is fully installed.  Electrical installation is 90 percent complete and has been green-tagged by the City of Austin as fully compliant with city code.

HVAC individual units have been installed in the second and third floors and we are awaiting city revisions on the first floor, with installation scheduled for completion by the end of September. Insulation and dry wall are 90 percent complete and sheet rock to enclose the insulation will be installed in a matter of days.

The exterior walls -- about 75 percent finished -- are a smooth finish stucco surface and will have a customized swirl appearance in a color that complements the stonework of the Lodge.

The front and back entryways of the first floor will be outlined in stone, with engraved Kappa Sigma and Tau letters displayed above the transoms.

All concrete is complete, including ramp sidewalks and parking lot entrances.  Parking will be available on the east and west sides of the building in addition to the garage, for a total of 56 spaces.

Landscaping will begin in a couple of weeks and interior final touches will be made in October.  Guided tours will be offered on November 12 during Parents' Weekend and Tau Trustee Reunion.

As we approach the dedication of the new Residence Hall -- also scheduled for November 12  -- I encourage you to make a generous contribution to the Tau Legacy 2015 Capital Campaign.  Please contact me or one of the other alumni listed below and make your pledge today.

Danny Grant '79, Capital Campaign Chairman          (713) 830-4515

Duer Wagner Jr. '48 Named 2016
Tau Man of the Year

Duer Wagner Jr., president and owner of Duer Wagner Jr. Interests, a successful oil and gas company based in Fort Worth, will be honored as Kappa Sigma Tau Man of the Year for 2016.

Chosen by Texas Kappa Sigma Educational Foundation for his exceptional contributions to the Tau Chapter, he will be awarded the Chapter's highest honor on November 12 during Parents' Weekend and Tau Trustee Reunion.

Mr. Wagner pledged Kappa Sigma at UT Austin in 1947 and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1950.  He established his oil and gas company in 1956 and is still involved in all facets of exploration, development, and production, and approves all major workover operations.

A longtime resident of Fort Worth, he also owns a ranch in Cresson, Texas, where he oversees all cattle operations.

Kappa Sig Golfers Kick Off Summer with Denton Cooley Tau Classic

Denton Cooley, MD '38 with players and guests at the
2017 Denton Cooley Tau Classic held on June 7.

More than 70 Kappa Sigs and friends gathered on June 7 for the 9th Annual Denton Cooley Tau Classic golf tournament and luncheon, held at Houston's historic Memorial Park Golf Course.

Despite weeks of rain, the course was in great shape -- thanks to the dedication and hard work of the Memorial Park staff and grounds crew.

Dr. Cooley opened his namesake event with some light-hearted comments, jokes, and inspiring words.  Although he no longer plays in the tournament, he was the star attraction, and his presence was enjoyed by all.

The format was a four-man scramble with gross and net winners. Low Gross winning team players were:  Brax McCarthy '10, Robert Glauser '72, Bob Kelsey '72, and Jim Pritchett '71.  Low Net winners were Howard Lederer '72, Johnny Bailey '77, and two really good guest golfers: Chad Spencer and Brent Marshall.

Sponsorships make this event possible and are much appreciated -- and you get special signage.
Individual prizes for long drives and closest to the hole were awarded to Brax McCarthy '10, Steve Adger '69, Chad Spencer, Trey Burke '95, Web Beard '12, and Tom Lockwood '81.

Tournament coordinators Jim Pritchett '71, Chuck Berson '67, and Willie Madden '84 wish to thank everyone who participated, with special gratitude to those who paid $500 sponsorship fees to underwrite the event. This year's sponsors include: John Kimball '69, Tito's Vodka, Oil & Gas Journal, The Warren Wildlife Gallery, Reggie Tuck '69, George Cox '70, Danny Grant '79, and -- in memory of Hal Finnegan '77 & Bubba Russell '75 -- Kevin Grace '75, Richard Hightower '75, Richard Lucas '75, and Loyd Wright '75.

Next year's Cooley Tau Classic is slated for Tuesday, June 6, 2017.

Tau Chapter Welcomes 2016 Pledge Class

Dear Tau Alumni and Parents:

On behalf of the Tau Chapter, I'm proud to welcome 46 new pledges to Kappa Sigma. This year's GMCs, Ben Sarvadi' 14 and Conner Rambin '14, did an excellent job of raising funds for rush and Darya Molavi '14, John Urmin '14, and Edward Toohey '14, our 2016 rush captains, organized several great social events to ensure a successful rush season.  As a result, we have an outstanding pledge class of young men who have shown the qualities and type of character we look for to help us build on our success as one of the finest fraternities at the University of Texas.

I would also like to express our gratitude to the alumni and parents who have given us this wonderful opportunity to be a part of the UT Kappa Sigma legacy.  The new Residence Hall is just one of the reasons we are proud to call ourselves Kappa Sigs.

I look forward to seeing you at Parents' Weekend and Tau Trustee Reunion in November.  Hook 'em horns!

A.E.K.D.B.,
