Lakes Road House News

On Friday, August 19th Lakes Road House got together with the folks from Movin' On Services to celebrate their 25th anniversary with a Mexican party. They were greeted with a nice fresh margarita and then served a lunch of burritos, tortilla casserole, salad, nachos supremo, various vegetables and cake and ice-cream.

Jason drew his own moustache, and Evelyn couldn't help but dance with someone. It was a great party!

 DABC Update: PWD Rates and
Transportation Support Allowance

On September 1, 2016 the BC Government will make the final move to end the bus pass program for people living with disabilities across the province. Under the false pretense of "choice", people living on provincial disability supports will now
be required to pay $52.00 a month to keep their bus pass.

People living with disabilities across the province have been calling out loudly to end this policy reform that will so negatively impact their participation and inclusion in their communities, but the government has done little to rectify the situation.

Please join us on September 1, 2016 at noon in front of the Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation office in Victoria (908 Pandora Street) to voice our collective concern and outrage at the government's decision to cancel the bus pass program. There will be lively music, signs, speakers and an opportunity to show the decision makers taking this bus pass away how horrible this is. This rally is part of a coordinated province-wide to confront this change and draw attention for the need of a real, comprehensive social system to support people living with disabilities.

ACCESSIBILITY
This is a free event. The event is on ground level and is wheelchair accessible. There are no washrooms directly onsite.

TERRITORY
This event is taking place within Lkwungen Territory

 Sentinel House News

On Saturday, August 21st Vicki and Lindsey joined in the festivities at Special Woodstock.  Vicki was thrilled to have the opportunity to get up on the stage and
sing one of her favourite songs, "Over the Rainbow"!

On Thursday, August 25th Sentinel House hosted their annual summer BBQ to celebrate 19 years.  Once again we were fortunate to have the sun shining and enjoy the very large, shaded deck. The food and company was fantastic!

On August 26th Ron enjoyed a trip to Butchart Gardens and enjoyed the peaceful surroundings, connecting with nature.

Help us Solve a Mystery

A mandolin and case has been found in storage in the Kardel office and we'd love to get it back to it's rightful owner.  If you think you know who it belongs to, please email Kim at hradmin@kardel87.com.  Thanks!
