Lakes Road House 20 Year Anniversary

On June 24th, Lakes celebrated our big "20th" anniversary.  Families, friends, and former staff joined Tanya, Brent, and Jason to make the day very special.  Our theme was multiculturalism and some wore traditional clothing to represent their country of origin.  The food was also traditional and fabulous, I must say!  We had rave reviews from all who attended.

Tanya dressed in her Scottish attire, Brent was all Irish, and Jason British.

We had at least 60 guests to help us celebrate and we all enjoyed listening and dancing to the music of Peter Bourne and Andy McCormack.  Their music and song was so appealing that we had to sing along.

We would like to thank you for sharing our 20th year celebration and making our day special.  See you next year for our annual Summer Party!  By Brenda Bailey

After years of collaboration with Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, and various ministries our Home Share Provider Diana finally secured the funding to provide a lift for Jennifer, the woman she has supported for many years.  This lift allows Jennifer to stay safely in the home and stay part of the family she has come to know and love.

Here is a photo of Jennifer, along with her mom Joyce and Home Share Provider Diana proudly showing us the new elevator lift that has recently been installed.

On June 6th, Jaime took a roomful of people back in time; waaaaay back to when dinosaurs roamed the earth! With the support of her Community Inclusion worker, Sophia, Jaime took on the role of "paleontologist"
and spent months researching and compiling information on dinosaurs. I was lucky enough to be invited to her presentation and learned so much about dinosaurs.  For example, I learned that while some dinosaurs were carnivores (meat-eaters) most were herbivores (plant eaters). I was fascinated to consider that dinosaurs walked on two feet and laid eggs, much like our modern day poultry! Jaime captured this- as the wonderful artist she is -through a painting (shown here).

What was truly amazing was how Jaime and Sophia transformed Jaime's living room into a "den of Dinosaurs" - we were surrounded! I made sure I sat FAR AWAY from the scary, meat-eating Tyrannosaurus Rex!

The highlight of the presentation for me was the "Dinosaur Song" with Jaime playing the guitar and singing with Sophia. All of us sang along and had fun "ROARING" on cue like the T-Rex! Afterwards, we were treated to delicious Dinosaur cupcakes and got to see "dinosaur eggs" hatching. What a fantastic presentation! Can't wait to see what Jaime will research for next year!

Kardel's Annual Summer Barbeque

On Tuesday, July 26, 2016 everyone is invited to join us for our annual summer barbeque at THE WELL: Centennial Park Baptist Church
7577 Wallace Drive.  In an effort to accommodate everyone, we offer two options; lunch from 11:00am to 2:30pm or dinner from 4:30pm to 7:30pm

It's become clear to the DABC that many people with disabilities do not understand their legal rights and responsibilities around disclosure of their disability in the context of employment.  They have created a new guide to inform and assist people with disabilities.    Click here for more details.
