Karkwa head stateside this week

NYC show at Pianos, Tribeca film festival

Toronto, April 20 -
It's been a very good run for Montreal rock band Karkwa. After winning the Polaris Music Prize in September 2010 for their fourth album Les Chemins de Verre (the glass pathways) they also received accolades at the ADISQ awards in their home province of Quebec taking home a Felix award for Alternative Album of the Year, and just this March, won Francophone Album of the Year at the Juno awards (one of two of their nominations.) They toured Ontario and Quebec, collaborated with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet in a tribute to Barney's Version at the Genie Awards, picked up new fans in Austin, Texas at SXSW, and were feted by a standing ovation at the Assemble Nationale in the chambers of Parliament.

After a slight pause to catch their breath in Montreal, the band heads this week to New York city to play a gig at Pianos on the Lower East Side this Friday, April 22 (9 p.m. tickets available here)  - making it very 'good' indeed - and on Saturday, April 23 they will attend "Jesus Henry Christ" - a film premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival, produced by Julia Roberts. The track "Le Pyromane" has been placed in the film. They will also play a private show for the film's after party following the screening.

Already released shows for the summer now include tour dates in France at The Eurockennes de Belfort, a performance at Trafalgar Square in London England for Canada Day, a hometown celebration at the Osheaga Festival with more to be announced. This fall's announced plans includes an October stop at the Iceland Airwaves festival.

Here's the music video for the track Le Pyromane:
