Author! Author! Literary Series: Katherine Boo Visits on October 18 |
The 2016/2017 season of the Deschutes Public Library Foundation's
Author! Author! literary series features a fantastic line-up of Pulitzer Prize winners and finalists: first up is
Katherine Boo ("Behind the Beautiful Forevers") on October 18. The series continues with
Dave Eggers
("A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius"),
Anthony Doerr ("All the Light We Cannot See"), and
Siddhartha Mukherjee ("The Emperor of All Maladies"). Tickets are on sale now at the
Library Foundation's website. All money raised through the Author! Author! program helps support library programs and services not funded by tax dollars.

We love book clubs, and we'd love to
supply your book club with some great books! We now have more than 150 kits of popular books for book clubs to check out. Each kit contains 10 or more paperback copies of the book as well as two large-print editions, and it all comes in a tote bag for easy carrying. We also include 12 copies of the reader's guide to help facilitate the discussion. To give everyone time to read the book, each kit can be checked out for eight weeks.

. Simply place a hold on the kit you want with your library card number and PIN, and the library will contact you when it's ready for pick up.

Fun Ways for Kids to Learn to Code |
Computer programmers are in great demand in today's work environment. Kids who learn to code have a natural advantage when it comes to understanding computer science. This October we're offering a number of coding camps for kids ages 6-8 and for tweens. Check out the two-part Kids Coding Camp where we e
xplore coding with Ozobots and play with circuits (begins 10/5); and Scratch coding where we learn to use it in creative ways (begins 10/19). A three-part tween Tech Camp starts on 10/18. Registration is required, so be sure to check the links for details.

The sale runs from 11:00-4:00, but members can enter at 9:00 a.m. for the best pick of what's available! Not a member?
