Spring is off to a fantastic start! We hear great news from Katy ISD students every week as they continue to out-perform their peers in local, regional, state and even national competitions. During the March regular Board meeting, we had the privilege of recognizing dozens of outstanding students in areas spanning from athletics to theatre. These students are a direct product of our great teachers and the great community of Katy.
This is also the time of the year when we recognize the teachers who tackle the challenges and embrace the joys of educating our youth - our Teachers of the Year! Each campus chooses one teacher to represent the best in education, and that is what they are, a representative of the thousands of teachers making a difference, one child at a time. What an honor to be chosen by your peers for excellence in impacting students. Typically, these award winners humbly state they are not responsible for success but give away the credit to their team members and support staff. In a field as challenging as education, there are many heroes and countless miracles but few egos. Our teachers chose a career not based on money, fame or accolades but for the potential to make a life-long impact and they are doing that every day in classrooms all across our district.
The district recently named its outstanding First Year Teachers of the Year, including two District-Wide Outstanding First Year Teachers of the Year: Travis Bailey from Rhoads Elementary, and Grant Smith from Raines High School. Congratulations to these teachers, and to all of our First Year and Campus Teachers of the Year. You are chosen as leaders because of your professionalism and your dedication extends beyond the students in your classroom and spills into homes all around our district.
Grateful to serve alongside you,
Rebecca Fox, President
