Schaechter-Gottesman is one of New York's leading Yiddish poets and songwriters, whose compositions have been recorded by Theodore Bikel, Adrienne Cooper in the US, Theresa Tova in Canada, Lucette Van-Den Berg in Holland, Andrea Pancur in Germany, Baklava in Macedonia, among many others. In 2005 she received the National Heritage Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts; the highest honor given by the US government to Folk Artists. 

 

Event will feature readings of Yiddish poetry in original and in English translation, and a performance by singer and cantor Janet Leuchter of the songs of Beyle Schaechter-Gottesman.
