Keep Warm and Safe

With the continuing extreme temperatures this winter, please keep in mind that the Chicago Department of Family and Support Services (DFSS) is prepared to assist Chicagoans through cold-weather emergencies.

DFSS coordinates the operation of Warming Centers and conducts well-being checks on at-risk residents. Our six Community Service Centers form the core of Chicago's Warming Center network, operating 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday; however, center hours and days may be extended in certain conditions and the public is notified when this happens. The Garfield center at 10 South Kedzie is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to connect individuals and families in need to shelter.

Additional facilities serve as Warming Centers when needed; these include libraries, Park District buildings, senior centers and other community venues. Information on the location and hours of all Warming Centers is available through the City's 311 help line.
