In the thick of summer, both Dispatches from Cleveland and Chavela flew to Frameline and played to brilliant, receptive, profoundly engaged audiences! Meanwhile, Chavela has also been jet-setting across the Atlantic, leaving soul-touched tears, booming laughter, and sing-a-longs in her wake all across Spain. She's been picking up a few awards along the way. We are loving all the love and want to spread it around: read below to discover some power "Films We Love"... Check 'em out!

And may we suggest that while you're reading along, you delight in the sensuous sounds of Fatoumata Diawara.

About Dispatches From Cleveland:
"Gund's web docuseries  Dispatches From Cleveland shows that no injustice
is an island...its five chapters outline how seemingly disparate wrongs such
as economic apartheid and trans rights can provide starting points for
unifying different communities...her docuseries offers an honesty that its marginalized subjects have been denied in other media." -    Peter Wong,

13TH Official Trailer

The title of Ava DuVernay's extraordinary and galvanizing documentary 13TH refers to the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, which reads "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States." The progression from that second qualifying clause to the horrors of mass criminalization and the sprawling American prison industry is laid out by DuVernay with bracing lucidity. With a potent mixture of archival footage and testimony from a dazzling array of activists, politicians, historians, and formerly incarcerated women and men, DuVernay creates a work of grand historical synthesis.
