Our Foundation is YOU! Essay Contest: Keep the Entries coming in!
The entries are pouring in! We want to hear from even more of our girls and adult volunteers with your essays, too!

Did you know? Our newly-purchased administrative headquarters has an unfinished first floor. One of the very first parts of the build-out process will be to lay the foundation. That's why we are taking this unique opportunity to reflect on our work as a staff team and remember why we need an office in the first place. The answer is: you! Our members are the foundation on which all of our ideas, plans, tactics, goals and successes are built.

We invite you to become a part of this next step for our Council by contributing to both the "underlying below ground level" of this building and the "underlying basis" for our work within it. Adult volunteers and girl members are asked to answer one of the questions below with a short essay (please do not exceed 300 words) and return entries to: [email protected] by June 30, 2017.

Adult Volunteer Essay Question:
How do you build a strong foundation for girls, and our entire world, by volunteering in Girl Scouts?

Girl Member Essay Question:
How are you building a strong foundation for your future by being a Girl Scout today?

One adult volunteer essay and one girl member essay will be selected to represent all of GSSEF as the foundation of our new venture and this building by having their words live forever, sealed and placed into our actual foundation, before the new concreate is poured. Winners will be announced in July. We will invite the two winners to join our Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Grand Opening Celebration (in 2018) to read their essays.

Troop 21108 spent the first day of summer vacation volunteering at Feeding South Florida. These Go-Getters participated in the kids stop summer hunger program. The troop delivered their Feeding South Florida donations and were able to see what happens after donations are dropped off. The girls inspected, sorted, and packed over 750 pounds of food in 1.5 hours.

On the road to Gold! Congratulations to the Go-Getters of Cadette Troop 11031 for earning their Girl Scout Silver Award. Their Silver Award project focused on tutoring and assistance with field trips and birthday parties for under-privileged children through AEF Schools LEAPS outreach program. They collectively volunteered more than 350 hours. Now they are excited to begin working on their Gold Award!.

Go-Getters of Troop 20441 Mariner Scout Ship Sea Cloud used their Girl Scout Cookie Sale Program proceeds to fund a unique travel experience. They spent five days in San Francisco. These Seniors and Ambassadors used only their feet and all public transportation to visit the Maritime museum and toured historic ships, learned about Gold Rush history, toured the cable car museum, Chinatown, the Exploratorium, and Alcatraz Federal Prison, and more. They learned how important it is to be responsible for themselves, as well as the importance of collaboration and trust in each other.
