It's certainly easier to feel calm and composed when life is unfolding according to your wishes.  However, life is in the habit of throwing us curve balls.  How do we maintain our balance, cultivating perspective and gratitude, in the midst of hard times?  I hope this issue of my newsletter will give you some ideas as you reflect on equanimity.

Also, I want to extend a hearty thank you for the many prayers, well wishes, and kind words extended to me and to my husband during his surgery and recovery period.  We are deeply grateful for your compassionate support.

In peace,

Ashley

This Month's Shortcut

"Magic Glasses"

Prompt:  When you are feeling bogged down with difficult circumstances and are unable to move forward with a task, duty or job

Close your eyes and imagine yourself putting on a pair of magic glasses.  These glasses allow you to see the world from someone else's perspective.  For example, put on the glasses of a Broadway star ... or the glasses of a college professor ... or the glasses of a child ... or the glasses of a CEO ... or the glasses of a truly cockeyed optimist.  Try on these fabulous glasses and see the world through fresh eyes.

When we imagine a different perspective, we allow ourselves the opportunity to bypass the negative, limited mind-set that gets in our way; we connect with a wiser and smarter self that is free from our typical reactive mind and knows no limits.

"Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word happy would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness.  It is far better to take things as they come along with patience and equanimity."
 ~ Carl Jung
