Keeping kids active
January 2016
Happy 2016 friends.

The new year brings cold weather to our state, and that means less outdoor playtime for our kids. Keeping children active and entertained when it's too cold to play outside can be a challenge. We want to keep youngsters moving and learning, but options can be limited.

One antidote to winter's boredom is to join the CATCH Kids Club.

Rainbow Fleet partners with the Oklahoma City/County Health Department to offer this great program which promotes physical activity and healthy habits.

CATCH, which stands for Coordinated Approach To Child Health, addresses nutrition, exercise and family involvement. Kids learn about making healthy food choices and providers learn how to have fun while promoting physical exercise. The program also provides resources to help families extend these components into the home.

Participating providers receive instructions and suggestions to implement the program into the child care environment. Providers who complete the CATCH Kids Club training have free access to special materials, including activity boxes and toys.

If you're interested, just visit our website to find out about our next training opportunity. Don't forget, we also have tons of great toys and games available in our Resource Center as well. Give us a call to schedule a visit.

If you have any creative indoor activities, please send them along. We'll share your ideas on our Facebook page.

As always, thanks for reading.

P.S. The Department of Human Services is hosting a public hearing on the Child Care and Development Fund Plan for federal fiscal years 2016-2018. The discussion is set for 1 p.m. Jan. 12 at Oklahoma History Center. DHS is seeking public input from the early childhood community and parents to help guide the development of the state plan.

P.P.S January is also the time for severe winter storms. The beginning of the year is a good time to make sure your severe weather plans are in place and your family handbooks are up to date with that information. If you need any assistance, the staff at Rainbow Fleet is happy to help.

Estimadas Proveedoras:

¡Hola estimadas proveedoras!
