KidsAndCars.org applauds Carrie Underwood for speaking out about her terrifying experience this weekend

Underwood's infant boy and dogs are safe thanks to her immediate action after they inadvertently became locked inside her vehicle.

Olathe, KS (July 13, 2015) - Praise goes to Carrie Underwood for her quick thinking and swift action to ensure the safety of her precious little ones.  "This new Mom not only took all the right steps to keep everyone safe, but then went above and beyond by tweeting what had just happened to her 4.6 million followers," stated Janette Fennell, president and founder of KidsAndCars.org.  Many mothers and fans could relate or sympathize with this incident.  Educating and informing others about the right steps to take when children and/or animals become locked in a vehicle is helpful to anyone faced with a similar situation.

The singer tweeted, "When your dogs manage to lock themselves, all your stuff, and the baby in the car and you have to break a window to get in... #WhatAreTheChances,"

Many people don't realize how quickly temperatures can climb in a car.  When outside temperatures are in the low 80's, the temperature inside a vehicle can reach deadly levels in only 10 minutes, even with the windows rolled down 1-2 inches. Children's bodies overheat 3-5 times faster than an adult.

Take Action if You See a Child Alone in a Car

Here's What You Can Do

  • Don't wait for the driver to return.
  • If the child is not responsive or is in distress, immediately:
    • Call 911.
    • Get the child out of the car using whatever means are necessary.*
    • Spray the child with cool water (not in an ice bath).
  • If the child is responsive:
    • Stay with the child until help arrives.
    • Have someone else search for the driver or ask the facility to page them.

*Be ready when seconds count

Empower yourself and those you love to rescue a child trapped in a car by shattering a window with resqme's? spring-loaded spike. KidsAndCars.org offers (via their website) the emergency escape tool resqme? - a window breaker and seat belt cutter, that is made-in-the-USA and hooks right on your keychain.
