  • Fiscal Year 19 Tax Rate Resolution
  • A resolution approving the award of a community reinvestment area abatement between the city of Mason, Ohio and Festo.

Mr. Furniss also reported that there has been a reduction in our bond tax rates due to new construction. Beginning January 1, 2019, homeowners will realize a reduction in their annual homeowners taxes. Furniss states that the owner of a $200,000 home will see a $49/year reduction in taxes. Additionally, home reappraisals to be completed this summer will result in another reduction for homeowners before January 1, 2019.
Superintendent's Report - Tim Ackermann
At this month's Work Session, Mr. Ackermann gave an update on the #KingsStrong Strategic Plan. A group of teachers and the District administrative team make up the #KingsStrong Task Force. They have been meeting for two years. The goal of the task force is create a plan to show what high quality teaching and learning should look like, not only now, but in 14 years. He also noted that the reason we need to be thinking this way is that 60% of the jobs that will be available for our current kindergarten students aren't even created yet.

He gave the Board a basic outline of the plan and explained how the tagline is the basis of how we will implement the plan going forward. He noted that instead of writing a lengthy mission statement the task force created a tagline for the plan called Relate. Create. Innovate. He said relate is first for a reason because after a lot of research, we believe that healthy relationships between staff, students and community will increase achievement.

He told the Board that we still have work to do on the plan but wanted to assure the Board that diversity and inclusion and cultural awareness are a large part of the plan, as well as the social-emotional piece that we will ask parents to be a part of in the future.
Assistant Superintendent's Report - Timothy J. Spinner
The Board approved the following personnel matters:

  • Certified and Classified Substitutes
  • Staff resignations
  • The hiring of Belinda Atkins as SLE Principal, effective 8/1/2018
  • Certified and Classified Substitutes
  • Certified staff contract renewals
  • Staff supplementals and stipends
Business Manager's Report - Matt Luecke
Mr. Luecke explained the Lockland Food Service Contract. He explained that last year we partnered with Lockland as a shared service. He said that the District has made $80,000 by providing food service for Lockland. He said it has been a great partnership and asked the Board to sign a two-year contract to continue the service.

He also gave an update on the Long Range Facilities plan. He told the Board that the large team vetted 14 different options regarding the master planning. He is currently working on the costs of running each building, as he does yearly. Next step is to send the Thoughtexchange to get community feedback of the master plan options.
