Treasurer's Report - Cary Furniss
The Board approved the following:

  • Minutes from the April 17 Regular Meeting and May 8 Work Session.
  • Donations and Financial reports for the month of April
  • Five-Year Forecast

Mr. Furniss reviewed the latest five-year forecast. A few highlights include:
  • 60% of the budget's total revenue is from local real estate tax and 73% of that real estate tax is paid by the Kings Homeowners.
  • 20% of the general fund revenue comes from basic state aid.
  • The average school district in Ohio receives $6,000 of state aid per pupil, Kings only receives $2,185 per student.
  • The forecast demonstrates that the district's basic state aid will remain “capped” during the five years. Without the gain cap, the district would see state aid increase by approximately 24.5% resulting in a $3,059,919 increase in 2019. This is an important point as student enrollment grows. State aid is not increasing to support the services of the additional students, meaning that the district is only being funded for 3,100 students. The cap on state funding places the burden on residential homeowners, especially since the elimination of the Tangible Personal Property Tax in 2006 to fund district operating.
  • Currently, the district's tax valuation is 808 million and that number is expected to grow with new construction.
  • 80% of the district budget is used for salaries and benefits.
Superintendent's Report - Tim Ackermann
At this month's Work Session, Mr. Ackermann updated the Board on the cultural awareness and diversity training that he is bringing to the district. The company, Did You Know Publishing will offer five modules of their "Woven Traditions" program. The training will start with the Administrative and Leadership teams in late May and run through Late September. The same training will occur for staff during the school year.
