The Opening Act

The officers of the Alleman High School Key Club called the meeting of May 16 to order.  Jonathan Turner furnished the entertainment, tickling those ivories.
Guests included the officers of the Alleman High School Key Club, who were the guest officiants for the meeting.
Several announcements were made.  First, concerning Peanut Weekend, Mike Bell proudly announced that $2,275.76 was collected.  Mike stated that he anticipated having a second Peanut Weekend to assist the Moline Club sometime during the fall.
Tom Hanson spoke for the Nominating Committee and announced that it looked like all slots would be filled for the coming year.  He asked that if anyone had suggested nominees to serve as Kiwanian of the Year and for the presentation of the Hixson Award, those names should be submitted to him.
Regarding the Golf Classic, Julie Derrer announced that approximately three-quarters of the budget has already been met on pledges.
Kevin Peterson made a pitch for those who might be interested in again working the Classic at the fourth hole this year.
We were reminded that there will be no meeting on May 30.  Rather, there will be a joint meeting with Rock Island Rotary on May 31.
The next Kiwanis Golf Outing will be at Hawthorne Ridge.  More details will follow.
May 25, we will again be making the collection and move for the food pantry.
In Fun and Fellowship, the preliminary $4 prize was won by Father Mirabelli, who graciously donated the money back to the Club.  The grand prize of $23 went to Dick Timmer, who just as graciously donated his winnings to the Alleman High School Key Club.

The Feature Attraction

The program consisted of the Key Club officers going through their pamphlet of membership activities during the past year and setting out a marvelous number of participants in the Club, programs in which the Club was engaged, and contributions which were generated.  This was followed by a presentation by the Alleman Principal, David Hobin.  He presented interesting fiscal information on Alleman, all of which emphasized the commitment of the school and its students to helping those who need help and assisting the community.  Mr. Hobin closed his presentation with a tribute to Father Mirabelli.
