The Opening Act

Club President Tom Hanson called the meeting of January 23rd to order.

Once again entertainment was provided by Johnathan Turner and his Living Legends Chorus.

The first announcement was our pleasure at welcoming our Lieutenant Governor for the second meeting in a row.

Guests included interclubs from Kewanee, East Moline and Moline, besides the group that came with the Lieutenant Governor.  Representatives of all the Clubs brought us up-to-date concerning activities being planned by these Clubs.  It was good to see the house full again.

Liz Loveless announced that the bowl-a-thon would be held on March 11.  There is still plenty of time to wax your bowling shoes and shake the wrinkles out of your polyester bowling shirts.

In Fun and Fellowship, the Kartel won the first prize of $7.00.  And then, showing us that voo-doo he does so well, Gary Miner also accepted on behalf of the Kartel, a fine bottle of merlot.

The Feature Attraction

The program was given by John and Roxanne Vanderheyden, District Coordinators for Project Eliminate.  They belong to the Alpine Club in the Rockford area.

They passed on a number of informational points, including that this Project Eliminate is operated in partnership with Unicef.  The goal of the project is to eliminate maternal and neo-natal tetanus, and has taken on a world-wide status.  John and Roxanne showed the progress and accumulating funds in eradication and success of the program, and gave examples of how eradication would benefit the youngsters.  Their program was supplemented by a screen presentation.

As a wrap-up to the program, our longtime member, Mike Swartz received a special recognition for his support of the project.
