The Opening Act

Club President, Chris Elsberg, called the meeting of April 18 to order.  Once again, providing the entertainment was Jonathan Turner and his Band of Renown.
We were reminded that the invocation and song leader sheets were finding their way around the room and were encouraged to volunteer to the extent that our talents can work.
We were given a few brief items of information from the most recent Board meeting.  First, Club leadership determined it would be appropriate to sponsor a Little League team for the Rock Island/Milan Little League.  The Board also accepted the responsibility of serving as physical, temporary holder of funds for the Friends of Douglas Park group.  With the end of the fiscal year coming, we were reminded that as Board members pass through their terms, it will now be time again to get three volunteers to serve for three-year terms.  Finally, we were encouraged to think about individuals we might wish to nominate for the Hixson Award and the award for Kiwanian of the Year.
Jeff Condit mentioned that he needed some help for service at Stecker's on the 27th for handing out roses.  He confirmed that approximately 950 dozen were accounted for, a significant increase over the past few years.
Toronto will be the site of this year's Kiwanis Convention from June 23 - 26.  Contact Club leadership if you might be interested in going and representing the Club.
We were again reminded of the grant and scholarship event at our meeting on the 25th.
Peanut Days for the Club will fall of May 6 and 7.
Julie Derrer circulated the Club's Birdies entry forms, which were gobbled up by the members in attendance.
Chris gave us a brief recap on the gavel presentation to the Geneseo Club recently.
Joe Robb introduced a guest from Transitions.
In Fun and Fellowship, Lee Schenck won the $3 prize, which she graciously donated back to the Club.  The grand prize was a $25 gift to Bike & Hike.

The Feature Attraction

The program was given by Cathy Wieman, Executive Director of Alternatives for the Older Adult.  She began with an overview of the mission of the organization and exactly what the organization does.  She explained that the agency was 32 years old and serves to assist in determining what can be done with the mentally and physically failing elderly for the purpose of providing care.  Her verbal presentation was supplemented with a short video presenting the breadth and depth of the organization's services.
