The Opening Act
Club President Tom Hanson called the meeting of November 14 to order.  Johnathan Turner provided the entertainment, along with his Veterans Chorus.
Reports were kept to a minimum, to devote as much time as possible to our special guest and speaker.
Guests included representatives of the Rock Island High School Key Club and the Kiwanis Clubs of Geneseo, East Moline/Silvis, Bettendorf and Moline.
We were reminded that the Salvation Army bell ringing would occur this Saturday, and that on November 23 would be our day to work Coats for Kids.
We were also saddened to hear the report that long time member and past President, Duncan Reid had passed away this past Sunday.  Visitation is to be held between 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Rock Island High School Field House, with a funeral scheduled Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
In fun and fellowship, representatives of the Geneseo Club cleaned the deck for prizes, winning the preliminary prize which was donated back to our Club, and the two grand prizes to other members of the Geneseo Club.
The Feature Attraction

The program was given by Paul Polazzolo, a past Kiwanis International President.  Paul gave an excellent presentation on winning and success in Kiwanis.  He began by giving a brief history of his involvement with Kiwanis, from his days of high school membership in Key Club to his International Presidency.  His roll now, is to visit various Clubs and help them to improve.  To this end, he cited 5 key-notes.  The first was Service, identifying what the community perceived its needs to be, and involving ourselves in an investment in time, not just money.  The second category was Fun, and keeping the Club meetings fresh and enjoyable to attend.  The third subject was Development, making sure that Club leadership is able to attend conferences and meetings where success stories of other Clubs can be passed on.  The fourth category was Notoriety. This is in the sense of publicizing the Club and its activities, and essentially letting the community know that the Kiwanis Club is present, active and vibrant.  The fifth category was Sponsorship, where each group would help each other, involving all the sub-organizations of Kiwanis, from school age to adulthood.
