The Opening Act

Club President Tom Hanson called the meeting of January 9th to order.

This was a joint meeting with the Rock Island Rotary Club, for which we played hosts.

The meeting was called to order, the opening segment of the meeting was given, and the chair was given to the Rotary President who went through their Club's announcements.

Following this, Tom gave just a few announcements, including food bank work next Wednesday, and roses which would soon be brought to the membership for sale.

In fun and fellowship, Chuck Dyson won the $10.00 prize and Jeff Dismer won the wine prize.

The Feature Attraction

The program for this meeting was the same as it has been for years on this particular occasion, this being the State of the City Address given by the current mayor.  This year, the presentation was made by Mayor Pauley.  He thanked both Clubs for what they have done over the years to improve the quality of life in the comminutes and making a positive difference.  He then went on to discuss the challenges that the city is facing from the retirements of a number of senior and more experienced employees and department heads.  He introduced those individuals who were in attendance.  He also commended all of those employees who did attend.  The Mayor pointed out the fiscal responsibility taken on by the city and restraint in taxation.  He also explained the functions and accomplishments of the various departments.
