The Newsletter of the Ramah Jerusalem Day Camp

We had a Splash in our third week of camp!

Our
bechira activities continue to be a huge success and we're so glad we initiated it this summer.

At Milhemet Tzvayim (Color War), the chanichim (campers) showed us their ruach (spirit), as the teams kahol (blue) and lavan (white) competed all day long. Our summer's theme, the music of Arik Einstein, has gone wonderfully, and we are excited to continue special themed programming this week, this time about Einstien's Anashim (People).

We hope the situation in Israel improves. We are constantly monitoring the situation with the authorities. If anything changes, we will be in touch with you.

If there is anything I can do to help, please contact me

Week Three, Here We Come!
Our Camp Theme This Year is The Music of Arik Einsteinarik
Every week, The Ramah Jerusalem Day Camp will emphasize certain elements of Einstein's music and incorporate it into Sha'at Shevet and other specialty programs.

Week four's theme will be Anashim
(People).
Campers will take part in fun-filled programming connected to Anahsim in Einstein's songs, like "Yesh Li Ach Katanm, I have a little brother, which is about a child who has a new baby brother join his family, but to his disappointment, everyone has forgotten about him.

Please note: We are including food in some programming. We are aware of food allergies your child may have based on the information you included with registration. If there is anything we should know that you did not included, please inform us as soon as possible.

What Do Chanichim Say?
"I liked Capture the Flag, the cheers were great...It was another kind of Milhemet Tzvayim (Color War) that I experienced, different than other camps, it was great!"
--Eitan, Shevet Sharon

"We are Yehuda, the Mighty, Mighty, Yehuda!"
--Rachel, Shevet Yehuda

"As a CIT, I love being a counselor and still have fun."
--Ophir, Shevet Sharon
Special Days
Yom Pijama (Pajama Day )
A silly day where we all wear our Pajamas to camp! Story telling and other activities are held on this day. Pajama Day is on Tuesday, July 22nd. (We still have schiya on Tuesday.)

Tiyul to Park Canada and Latrun
Our Tiyul will be on Wednesday, July 23rd to Latrun and Park Canada.  This will include a short hike and tour around the tanks at Latrun.  We are dependent upon the Israeli Authorities approving the safety of the camp for going on this tiyul.  Please note that it could be cancelled dependent upon the security situation.

Yom Mayim (Water Day)
A fun-filled day with a little water added. Water Day is on Thursday, July 24th. Water balloons and other fun water activities await your child today. Please send your children to camp in clothes they can get wet in. They should still have their bathing suits as well a dry set of clothes to change into.

Our base location is the deshe, the grassy area next to the tennis courts, adjacent to our office buildingDrop off and pick up are both at the deshe.

  bechira
Bechira (Specialist Electives)
Every day for the first hour of camp, campers will have bechira. This is an opportunity to specialize in one area of interest.

Please take the time reading over the seven bechira options listed, discuss your child's favorite, and choose one.
Then email your child's choice to Hannah, our assistant director, at [email protected].

Options for bechira include:
  1. Ivrit (Hebrew) is led by our camp counselors with the direction of our assistant director. Ivrit incorporates Hebrew games, songs and fun while surrounding your camper with the tools to learn the basics of the Hebrew language.
  2. Sports is led by Michael, our sports specialist. Your child will be exposed to not only playing sports, but learning the skills to improve at his/her favorite sport.
  3. Shira (song) is led by Rivkah, our music specialist. Your child will be able to focus on voice training and making his/her own songs at camp with various musical instruments.
  4. Omanut (art) is led by Shayna, our omanut specialist. Your child will be able to complete even longer on-going art projects they encounter with the omanut bechira.
  5. Rikud (dance) is led by Max, our dance specialist. Your child will have the opportunity to learn even more modern, rikudei am (folk), jazzy and fun dances than ever before.  Your child is sure to love the rikud bechira if he/she loves to dance.
  6. Drama is led by Naomi, our drama specialist.
Your child will have the chance to be an actor of his/her own! Here your child will learn how to create his/her own skits and act them out while learning and incorporating Jewish values.
