KMG Instructor of the month

Name: Elroy Vaz

Age:

Will be Fifty this coming March; half a century -what a ride!

Marital status:

Real glad in this life to be part of my family;

a loving wife, a 23 year old son, a 12 year old daughter, our three dogs and two cats. All Kravites, the pets too. Mumbai is our home.

Occupation:

I own a removals company for the past 24 years, but KMG India has almost become my full time profession as I take around 24 flights a month within India trying my best to spread the Knowledge of KMG as the Regional Head of KMG in India. I give around 80 KMG classes a month, VIP protection workshops, corporate workshops and pro bono work trying to spread the knowledge to Women.

Krav Maga experience:

Tried my hand at KM from 2004 but finally got into KM with an organized outfit in 2007. Having been into other Martial Art styles and also having taught in those styles, I wanted to be a KM Instructor and started my journey in 2010, I traveled to Italy in 2011 and met Eyal and found my Guru in him for the rest of my life and therefore became a member of the KMG Family. One of the most important decisions in my entire life.

Why Krav Maga

Having been into Martial Arts from the age of 10 in a country where exposure in those years was not easy, television too came into India only in the mid seventies, I moved from style to style over the years never actually being content. In the meanwhile family and work took precedence (it still does).

In my early 20's I experienced KM on the beaches of Goa, I always wanted to pursue KM but due to personal choices I only got into KM much later on in my life. During my training of KM over the years, a tragedy occurred in my life and I lost one of my closest friends who was in Law Enforcement in the 26/11 terrorist attack in Mumbai. He was a person that stood up for people that could not defend themselves. An inspirational person. His passing away changed my life. In pursuit of trying to do what he did, I became a KM Instructor. Each class gives me a sense of fulfillment and the will to do more.

Weekly training regime:

Giving around 36 hours of KM classes a week leaves me with much less time to train. I try to do so early in the morning on my own around 5 am for an hour twice a week and since all the members of my family are KMG students, I ask them to train with me at least twice a week.

Most effective Krav Maga technique:

360 Defense which I needed to used a couple of times in real life.

Tip for KM trainees:

"Never give up": think and feel this as your basis of your training. There are no limits once you think this way. In Krav Maga it's not what you think you know, but what you do.

 Dear Friends,

The month of July marks the beginning of the second part of the year and the opening of the Instructor course season.
The third quarter of 2013 is the busiest time of the year for Instructor courses while the events during the forth quarter include more Instructor training and G camp.

This year we will be conducting approximately 30 Instructor Courses and welcoming aboard more than 500 new Instructors who will have the privilege and  responsibility of educating and teaching the largest ever generation of students from more than 60 countries globally.

The resources and time invested by all involved in the Instructor Course are great:
  1. The course participants -  Much time is devoted before and during the course to training, mental and physical preparation as well as the time devoted to participating in such a long course.
  2. The School Owner - Support and prepare the participants before and during the course.
  3. The Local Director - Much work is done by the Director of each country to develop and advance the Instructor courses in that country. Increase in the number of Instructors has a direct impact on the development of Krav Maga in the country/region.
  4. HQ - Eyal and the office invest much time and resources in training the GIT and preparing them for the courses. We continuously work on improving and upgrading the Instructor course 365 days a year. Each course is separately investigated, preserving the better aspects and improving what is necessary.
One of KMG's strengths and advantages over our competitors is our unwillingness to compromise and insistence on conducting an intensive long Instructor Course that only the most suitable candidates are accepted to participate in. We do not train people who personally (as human beings) are unsuitable for educating others and some of the participants may have to repeat part or all of the course in order to graduate and receive the desired diploma.
While other organizations train Instructors over a period of a few days only, we raise the standard and will continue doing so in the future.

Sincerely yours,

David Gorin

Changes

By Eyal Yanilov

Head Instructor

How do we change?
The mind creates thoughts. Thoughts evolve into action. The action becomes a habit. Habits build character. The character establishes the personality. The personality affects thoughts and thus changes you and your destiny.
If you wish to achieve something do it by changing yourself. Start with the appropriate way of thinking, meaning the correct thoughts and follow through with action. This is the way to change your life and destiny.

In practice, KMG instructors take it upon themselves to affect change in others. This by teaching, passing on information, training and sharing examples and knowledge and by being a role model.
It is clear that the info and knowledge come from the higher level and more knowledgeable ones. What I received from Imi and other teachers/instructors I met throughout my life and was fortunate enough to add, explain and progress, I teach and pass on to other instructors. This is my role and duty (By the way - what is yours?).

GIC Ireland July 2013.

In July we saw temperatures consistently high in the 20C - 30C as I arrived in Ireland. The hottest temperatures for 7 years and the driest July since records began in the UK and Ireland. I was starting to think to myself 'Did I choose a good week to be working 9 days inside the gym?'

Well the answer was a very positive 'Yes'. Having travelled to Ireland many times with Krav Maga activities over the past 5 years, it was great to see people on the instructor course, who have come through the system progressively over the past 5 years.

This month I had the opportunity to travel around the world, really around the world. After 25 hours of flight I landed in Australia for the last part of the GIC and an Instructors Update.

Adam White is doing a great job bringing KMG to new levels in Australia, and the course of 18 people from Australia, China and Singapore was of a high standard.

This July I had the wonderful opportunity of instructing the GIC part 1 in Prague and I've decided to share with you a different point of view of my visit. For me it was an experience and a great opportunity to meet a group of amazing people who took part in this course.  Jacob and Vaclav who organized the course provided me with excellent hospitality.
