LANDINGS ART ASSOCIATION  OPENS 2017-2018 SEASON  WITH ACCLAIMED ARTIST SHARON SASEEN

Carol Otto Cole

Rarely do artists of communal notoriety reach the iconic status Savannahian Sharon Saseen has achieved throughout the Southeast. The LAA sets a high bar for the coming year with its opening General Meeting on September 19.  A short business meeting begins at 7, after which Saseen will speak to the membership and interested art lovers on her personal journey as an evolving, versatile and dynamic member of an art scene she has partly dominated for over 30 years.

Saseen's  distinctive style, which can be --and commonly, is-- identified from across a room, is well placed in many homes and professional offices throughout the South. Her vibrant, richly toned townhouses festooned with ornate ironwork doors and planter boxes, her robust and recognizable River Street scenes and landmark Savannah mansions, her fanciful Asian figures and her Mexican streetscapes need to be seen to be appreciated (check out City Market's Signature Gallery or Gallery 209 on River Street).  Visual representations may be viewed on her website, saseen.com, a user-friendly site with paintings classified by genre:  locale, type media, style (abstract, whimsical, exotic).

With awards and accolades too numerous to mention here, Saseen says few people know her large rendition of Fort Sumter ("Calm Before the Storm") is hanging in the National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania along with her large print of Fort Sumter and the Steamship Ida--donated by Landings residents and Civil War aficionados Joyce and Dick Evans, also from Taylorville, Illinois.

For our benefit, Saseen will show and describe how the Savannah Art scene has evolved over the many years she has been an active participant, as a teacher, self-employed artist, and children's book author.  Vivacious and informative, she will overload your senses with enchanting pictures and stories.  Everyone is invited....rearrange  dinner or other scheduled activities for this special opportunity, it's an evening you do not want to miss.

Join LAA at the Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church on Tuesday,  September 19 at 7 p.m. For information about LAA, visit www.landingsart.com or contact Pam Reynolds, Membership Chair at drpamr@gmail.com

Sharon McIntosh

Sharon McIntosh is a Savannah native. She began painting at the early age of 8 and studied under local artists, Sidney Beauman and Sally Bostwick. She continued to pursue her painting studies in college culminating in a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with honors in Painting from Florida International University in Miami.

Her love of painting, combined with her attraction to the surrounding waterways, historical sites and the area's unique landscapes, beckons her to share these experiences with others visually.  She and her family are very involved in the pleasures of sailing and boating upon the waters of their coastal realm.

She enjoys painting in her Wilmington Island studio and en plein air.  She also teaches oil painting classes.

This show depicts viewpoints of our coastal landscapes.  The images are painted en plein air or from photos taken on our local waters.

For more information about her work, you may visit www.sharonmcintosh.com or call her at 912 713 4267.
