Six Job Seekers Hired by This Is It! Bar-B-Q After Job Fair at LAA
Sixty two candidates participated in a mini-job fair hosted by This Is It! Bar-B-Q Restaurant and the LAA Oct. 7. Latino Youth Leadership Academy Involves 53 Students at Berkmar Middle School
The LAA is collaborating with Berkmar Middle school to host LYLA (Latino Youth Leadership Academy), an after school program that incorporates leadership development and enrichment activities such as soccer, tennis, chess and field trips. This program forms part of the LAA's
¡Inspira! youth initiative which focuses on strengthening academic outcomes for students and increasing the Latino graduation rate.


Twenty Three Graduate from Substitute Teacher Training Oct. 11, 2010
Early childhood development, childcare techniques, and CPR are just a few of the skills learned by participants in the LAA's Quiero Trabajar Substitute Teacher Training. This intensive course prepares participants to work in a commercial or private childcare setting upon graduation. The program is funded by The United Way and designed to teach new skills to attendees so they can obtain stable employment.

11th Annual Latino Youth Leadership Conference will Take Place this Saturday!
More than 1,400 students are registered to attend the 11th Annual Latino Youth Leadership Conference which will be held Saturday, Nov. 13 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Middle and high school students will enjoy inspirational keynote speakers and a phenomenal day of workshops that focus on leadership skills, applying to college and making good choices. Adopt-a-Family this Thanksgiving
Many families are struggling to put a meal on the table this Thanksgiving. But it's easy to help! Simply donate $25 to the LAA's Adopt-a-Family program and help one family prepare a Thanksgiving meal. Gift cards from grocery stores and vendors such as Honeybaked Ham are also accepted. Spirit of Giving Toy Drive is Kicking Off!
Put a HUGE smile on a child's face this holiday season by donating to the LAA's Spirit of Giving Toy Drive! We are accepting new, unwrapped toy donations for children ages 0 to 12. Toys can be educational and fun! Please bring the toys to any LAA outreach center located in Atlanta, Marietta or Norcross by Friday, Dec. 10. Thanks so much for your tremendous support. The LAA offers a variety of Spanish classes, including private, group and corporate classes where we send an instructor right to your place of work. Kids Latin Dance & Ballroom Dance Now Offered Every Saturday, Starting in November!
Latin Dance for Kids will now be held EVERY Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the LAA. Ballroom Dance will now be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon every Saturday. For more information call 404-471-1892 or 917-459-1177 or email smarske@thelaa.org.
