Hello Fellow LAAHU Members.
Summer is coming to a close and, as we realized at the last member meeting, renewal season has already begun. As you have seen by the amount of emails from LAAHU we have had a very active couple of months in the hopes of giving as much value as we can before 100% of your focus and resources are required in your business. Your LAAHU board is taking your needs into consideration and after the
Medicare Summit in October you will see a lightened schedule in the 4
th quarter. Know that we will still be working behind the scenes with our legislative committee continuing to develop the Adopt a Legislator program and all of the other committees we have actively working to help grow our voice. If you want to know more about how you can get involved PLEASE email us at
[email protected] and we can find a good fit for you!
A few exciting announcements:
1. We are joining all of the CAHU chapters in a social media campaign - the purpose of which is to open the door of communication to consumers and employers letting them know that using a professional to help guide them through the maze of health insurance is the ONLY way to go. A special shout out to our own chapter member, Alison Gordon, for starting the conversation last year about how we can have an active voice with social media on a BIG level! We will be starting this on
Monday, September 19, 2016 at 10:30 am
. Help "Agents are the Answer" become a trending topic! An added bonus - thanks to our Media Chair, Dede Kennedy-Simington, we have the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce participating in our blitz!
2. Have you heard about our new recruiting program? This program was created as a value to our members to help with the hiring of new talent by posting positions on the job boards of local colleges. This program will also help to show those entering the job market that there is a career to be had in this industry.
Click here for the form you can complete if you are looking to hire and email it to
[email protected]. We will post it on the local college job boards for you!
3. We are proud to talk about the big legislative news showing California as a leader AGAIN. The "balanced billing" piece, previously AB 533 re-introduced this year as AB 72,
passed legislature and has been sent to Governor Brown for action. That is GREAT news and something to share with every client we talk to - we have just prevented one of the biggest issues our clients come to us with!
Please
click here for the current bill list CAHU is following.
In closing we thank you for your membership and encourage you to reach out to any of us on the board with questions, ideas, or if you just want to get involved. You can find our contact information on the website at
www.laahu.org. Wishing you a smooth and successful 4th Quarter!
Warmest Regards,
Dawn McFarland
LAAHU President

As a person with Medicare, you have important rights. One of them is the right to appeal.
An appeal is the action you can take if you disagree with a coverage or payment decision by Medicare or your Medicare health plan. For example, you can appeal if Medicare or your plan denies:
■ A request for a health care service, supply, item, or prescription drug that you think you should get.
■ A request for payment of a health care service, supply, item, or prescription drug you already got.
■ A request to reduce the amount you must pay for a health care service, supply, item, or prescription drug.
Cate Kortzeborn is Medicare's acting regional administrator for Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, and the Pacific Territories. You can always get answers to your Medicare questions by calling 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).
