FROM THE PRESIDENT
President's Message:

Hi Everyone:

I'm now officially on summer break from school...yahoo! That means I'll have time to work on  my own artwork again. Isn't it interesting that having time to paint is my number one thought,  over more time to... travel, play, sleep, spring-clean, etc. I think once you get the "bug" to  create, it never leaves you.

So "Happy Creating" enjoy the journey! And be sure to share your creations with us at our
shows this summer; LAG Member's Show June 7-11 and The Boulder County Fair July 26 - Aug.   6th ! See you there.

Annual June Member Art Show & Sale

We need your help running the show!

LAG Members: If you signed-up to be in the upcoming June Members Art Show, this is a friendly reminder to bring food to our artist reception  June 9th6-8pm.  The food can be any type you want, can be made at home or store bought.  Put your name on the bottom of the plate/bowl to make sure it is returned to you.

Also, don't forget to sign-up for a spot on our volunteer list.  A lot of spots are filled, but we really need:

* People to pick up our art racks (if you have a truck, that would be so welcomed) and deliver them to the fairgrounds.

* People to help set up the art racks  June 7th.  The more folks we have do this, the faster it goes.

* One or two people to cover the gift shop during the artist reception  6-8pmJune 9th.

* People to help take down art racks  June 11th4-5pm.

* People to return the art racks (truck needed here as well)  June 11th, 5pm.

Meetings are held on the first Monday evening of the month. The next meeting after the summer break is September 11th (because of Labor Day) at 6:30pm at the  First Congregational United Church of Christ, 9th Avenue and Francis Street, Longmont, Colorado. Virla Harrell has a special story to share....

Fellow artists, we are all unique with our varying gifts. What I am telling you is not to lift me up above anyone else but maybe it will challenge you to see in yourself something you didn't even know you have -- to make a difference in someone's life.

I teach watercolor and various mediums in my home. About a year and half ago, I had a man ask if I would consider teaching his wife art lessons. She had had a stroke about four years ago. She can understand but cannot speak.  I told him I really didn't think I could do that but last December he asked me again.  I said I would try but wanted him to come and be there with his wife during the class because I didn't know what I could do.  She had done oil before her surgery but I knew with her tremor and the challenge of it being messier than watercolor, watercolor would be better.

I'm so thankful I made myself stretch to teach her.  Some days her tremor is enough that I need to help hold her arm to steady her and some times she can put the paint on without my help.  She absolutely loves it and she knows what she wants and tries to communicate that to me with her actions.

I was overwhelmed when her husband told me a couple of weeks ago, that she has said some new words.  You know me not knowing if I could do it -- I just flat ask God to help me make a difference in her life.  You too can make a bright spot in someone's life!

Arts Longmont Opportunities

GALLERY:
We accept applications throughout the year. Once we receive an application, we process it, have the exhibition committee convene and determine whether you are juried in. Once you are juried in, we will schedule exhibitions with you. Depending on the time of year, there may not be immediate openings. The gift shop is part of the gallery, so once you are juried in to the gallery you can also have work in the gift shop. The schedule is set for the rest of 2016 but there is still 2017.

ARTIST REGISTRY:
This is our community program where art is placed for sale in local businesses throughout Longmont. Artists do not have to be juried for this program. There are two levels of annual fees-$15 (volunteering for installment or sales) - or $30 (with no volunteer commitment). There is a 25% commission on all sales. With this program, change-overs occur 3 times a year-typically mid-March, late-July/early-August and late-November. The next rotation will be in August 2, 2017.

GIFT SHOP:
Artists can apply to have their work just in the gift shop. There is a jury process (but not as extensive as the one for the resident artist program.) The application is attached.
We have two commission options:
70/30 (one 3-hour shift per month of volunteering in the gallery)
50/50 (with no volunteer commitment).

LONGMONT STUDIO TOUR (LST):
This is also a juried program. LST is the last weekend in September. Artists open their studios/venues for the public. Applications are available in January of each year with a deadline at the end of March. If you have expressed interest in this program, you will receive an application via email. There are two levels of membership fees-$90 (with 12 hours of volunteering) - or $215 (with no volunteer commitment). This is a non-commission program.
