ANOTHER ROCKIN' LAGUNA BOWL VI!
Thank you to everyone who joined us for another great night of music, dancing, and celebrating the end of the year at Laguna Bowl 2017. We had a rockin' good time!

Special thanks to the following who made the event possible:
  • Lower School Moms Nicole (Frank) Ball, Leslie Hucko-Comis, and Special Guests The Caverns and Erland Wanberg
  • Nick Morello for the generous supply of wine
  • Figueroa Mountain for the craft beer
  • Rori’s Artisanal Creamery for dessert
  • Beans BBQ and Catering

A BEAUTIFUL, FITTING THANK YOU FOR MRS. MCDAVID
This week, Lower School Art Instructor Melissa Abrams surprised Assistant to Head of Lower School Darla McDavid with collaborative works of art from each of the six Lower School grades. Every student in each class added a flower to their grade level's piece, each of which was inspired by a different artist (as well as by Mrs. McDavid's love of gardening). Stop by the front office at the Lower School to enjoy these colorful and unique paintings!
LOWER SCHOOL MUSICAL THEATRE CLUB PRESENTS THE ARISTOCATS
BRAVO! Over the past seven weeks, the Lower School Musical Theatre Club met after school and worked hard to prepare for Sunday afternoon’s performance. Students did a fantastic job presenting Disney’s THE ARISTOCATS in Spaulding Auditorium. Special thanks to Mrs. Markstrum and Ms. Wood for making all of this possible.
 MERCI, MADAME MAILLARD
French students created a surprise farewell video to thank their treasured French Teacher Madame Maillard, who has been a special part of Laguna's World Languages program since 2005. They wish her well as she begins her new adventure on the east coast. Click here to view this thoughtful tribute created by Kiki Tolles '20 and Pisci Abrego '20 and filmed by Charlie Jacobs '20. Grab a tissue, Madame Maillard! ;)

Below, Madame Maillard and her students enjoy crepes to celebrate the end of a successful year!
8TH GRADE TRANSFORMATION PROJECTS
What an impressive few days it has been for the Class of 2021. As one of their culminating assignments for the eighth grade year, the students presented their Transformation Projects on Spaulding's stage earlier this week.

Mr. Moore and Mrs. Alldredge asked the students -- How can you transform the world for the better? In this project, they each sought to develop a solution to a local, regional, national, or international problem. They researched their topics, envisioned solutions, and presented their work in three ways: (1) a research essay, (2) a creative presentation, and (3) a STEM component.

Click here to check out the students' blogs about their Transformation Projects.

Bravo, Class of 2021! Your futures are bright indeed.
LAGUNA'S MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS SCORE BIG IN 2017 MATH SUPER BOWL
Last week, Laguna Middle School math students competed with over 300 students representing 33 schools throughout Santa Barbara County in the annual South Coast Math Super Bowl. The math bowl was created over thirty years ago to promote mathematics study and honor outstanding math students in the county.

Thanks to a generous leadership gift to the Laguna Fund to support the Middle School Math Club (MSMC), students were provided with the opportunity to participate in fun MSMC pizza lunch sessions, to spend a few Saturday mornings working on challenging mathematical puzzles, and to learn critical thinking skills throughout the year. Laguna Math Teacher and Club Leader Mr. Poholsky is very proud of all eight members of the fifth and sixth grade teams. "It was their first year participating in this popular local competition, and I think they did great,” he adds.

Congratulations to the following students for placing at the competition:

Fifth Grade Individual Award
Lucas Acosta '24 (pictured above left) - 7th place overall

Sixth Grade Team Award
In the Tower Building Contest, the team of sixth graders placed 3rd, building a tower of 6’3” using only three sheets of 8x10 PAPER, 36” of masking tape, a paper clip, and scissors. To qualify, the tower had to stand on its own for 15 seconds.

The sixth grade team also earned 7th place overall in the competition.

Sixth Grade Individual Awards (students pictured above right)
Jacob Molina '23 - 10th place
Carter Mikkelsen '23 - 11th place
Caden Weaver '23 - 14th place

CLOSING OUT THE YEAR WITH SENIOR PROJECT PRESENTATIONS
Monday, June 12 | 3:00-5:30PM
Spaulding Auditorium

Each year, Laguna seniors gain valuable real-world experience as part of the school's longstanding Senior Project program. Soon-to-be graduates take two weeks to pursue an interest, or gain hands-on experience in new areas. Students are guided through the process by both on- and off-campus advisors. At the culmination of the project, seniors deliver formal presentations to classmates, faculty, and their families. They also write and submit a Senior Project final assessment paper, which reflects upon their experiences and insights they may have gained during their projects.

Presentations will take place on Monday 6/12. Click here for the schedule of presentations. The winning senior project will be announced and awarded at the commencement ceremony on Wednesday.

On behalf of the entire Laguna community, we would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Laguna Fund Co-Chairs Julia Rodgers and Dave Bradley, who led our team of parent volunteers (Rebecca Ball, Kristen Blabey, Pam Brown, Brandi Fraser, Elisabeth Fowler, Vicky Lopez, Peter Morris, Nancy O'Connor, Erica Schreiber, and Jane Weaver) and worked tirelessly throughout the year to raise critical support for our school.

We are grateful for the current parents (click for a list of donors) who have contributed to the 2016-2017 Laguna Fund. Your sustained efforts provide the support needed for our exceptional academic, artistic, athletic, and cultural efforts. Laguna students thrive because of your participation.

We would also like to express our gratitude to the extended Laguna community (faculty, staff, grandparents, alumni, friends) for contributing nearly $500,000 this year.

For families who haven't yet contributed, please know that your participation matters--in a very real way--and we hope you will join this effort by June 30, the close of Laguna's fiscal year.  All gifts received by June 30 will be counted in our 2016/17 campaign. Each and every member of our community helps to impact our present and our future. CLICK HERE TO GIVE TODAY.
