We still have a few spaces available for this excellent introduction to birding in the new world tropics. Registration closes soon - contact the Ventures office today!
Situated within the buffer zone of Pico Bonito National Park on the north coast of Honduras, the Lodge at Pico Bonito has flown onto the birding scene within the last couple of years. Often referred to as the 'jewel of Central America's Caribbean coast,' this 400-acre property and surrounding national park is home to over 420 species of birds, plus tropical amphibians, reptiles, and exotic mammals such as kinkajous, monkeys and jaguars. The Lodge will be our base for the entire week, and we will explore the grounds, hike the rainforest trails, take a beautiful ride via train on a century-old track through bird-rich ranchlands and marshes to a nearby national wildlife refuge, AND have the opportunity to snorkel along the world's second largest barrier reef.
There are quite a few different ecosystems encompassed within the local region and during our time at this 'birder's dream' of a lodge we should see everything from Magnificent Frigatebirds along the coast to the endemic and declining Honduran Emerald in the nearby dry forest. Motmots are well represented in the area and we stand the chance of seeing Blue-crowned, Turquoise-browed, Tody and the rare Keel-billed Motmot. There are 3 multi-story canopy observation towers which offer maximum viewing and photographic opportunities and a walk around the grounds and enjoying the feeders can produce an excellent variety of birds.
The Lodge even has a spa...so you'll have the option of a relaxing massage after a full day of birding!
The surrounding National Park, grounds, fruit feeders and laid-back pace make this trip a PERFECT introduction to birding in the new world tropics - so escape the winter and join Aaron for a wonderful week at the Lodge at Pico Bonito.
