Greetings, members!

LFINAL TWO MEETINGS
Detroit Business: Driving Communication in the Motor City
Monday, April 9 at 5 p.m.
Manoogian 408 (Romanian Room)

Guest Speaker:

Tom O'Connell, Account Executive, Business Wire

On Oct. 28, 2009, PRSA launched The Business Case For Public Relations, an advocacy campaign designed to drive industry recognition and growth by helping professionals in the field educate key audiences about public relations' roles and outcomes, demonstrate its strategic value and enhance its reputation. On Dec. 7, 2011, PRSA announced its MBA initiative, a multi-year effort to advocate the importance of including public relations skills and understanding in MBA programs. More and more, employers are looking for public relations professionals who are not only knowledgeable in communication, but have an firm understanding of business principles and practice, too.

Join us for a discussion on the business of public relations, from investor relations, to its relationship to marketing and sales disciplines, to doing business in Detroit - its outlook, its challenges and its opportunities.

Tom O'Connell is account executive at Business Wire, where he manages all accounts and new business development in Michigan. He works primarily with Fortune 1000/public companies, private companies, PR agencies and non-profit organizations.

O'Connell is also chair of the communications committee for PRSA Detroit. He served as 2002-2003 president of the Detroit Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC).
