Effective November 1, 2017 New Jersey has raised the age of sale to buy any tobacco products, including electronic cigarettes
from 19 to 21 years and older. This makes sense considering nearly 12,000 people die from smoking related illnesses each year. It makes even more sense when the new trend in smoking, vaping, makes it easy to substitute liquid nicotine for illegal drugs all with an odorless, easy to conceal device.
At Lower Cape May Regional we realize the change in sale law gives us a great opportunity to help our young people avoid the tobacco and smoking trap. There is no reason ANY of our students should have any smoking device or tobacco product in possession at any time and we are asking all parents to help through their vigilance. We are also asking all adults in our school and business community to be aware of this new law and encourage our youth to develop healthy habits.
