|** CANCELLED DUE TO POWER OUTAGE **
Dear Friend of LCNV,
All Northern Virginia campuses of Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) are closed on Sunday, July 1, 2012. As a result, the Literacy Council of Northern Virginia's 50th Anniversary Golden Reunion is cancelled.
Due to the widespread power outage in Northern Virginia, I ask you to please forward this message to your LCNV friends past and present - or better yet, make a few phone calls to ensure that all of them are faring well! You can also link to us on Facebook
and help me spread the word.
In addition, the Literacy Council's office is without power and telephone service at the time of this email, so we are unable to update our website or phone message.
I sincerely appreciate the time and talents of the dozens of volunteers and staff members who worked so hard to organize this once in a lifetime event. While I am disappointed that the Golden Reunion is cancelled, I am reminded of the words of Anne Frank: "How wonderful that no one need wait a single moment to improve the world." Our 50th year will not start with the fanfare it deserves, but it does start with knowing that your support helps change the lives of 1,500 adult learners each year.
Thank you, and please be safe!
I will be in touch with details when we reschedule the Golden Reunion.
The mission of the Literacy Council of Northern Virginia is to teach adults the basic skills of reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English in order to empower them to participate more fully and confidently in their communities.
