Underwriting & Collections
November 8-9, Baton Rouge

Pierre Cardenas is thrilled to be returning to Louisiana, this time to unlock the secrets of successful underwriting and how underwriting is truly intertwined and works in tandem with its delicate counterpart...Collections.

If you previously thought the 2 roles weren't intertwined, come find out why Pierre strongly believes they are!
Pierre's philosophy is that learning happens best not by looking at vague textbook concepts but by applying your own credit union and your own members into the interactive learning process. Be prepared to bring a couple of your own credit union's actual loans (preferably denied loans) to be evaluated and discussed openly in our hands-on interactive session!
  • Evaluating Risk, Mitigating Risk & Managing Risk
  • Building Loan Portfolios
  • The importance of policy and the role it plays in underwriting
  • Risk associated with different portfolios
    • Indirect Portfolio
    • Unsecured Portfolio
    • Secured (non-auto) Portfolio
    • Credit Card Portfolio
    • Direct Auto Portfolio
    • Home Equity Portfolio
    • Home Improvement Portfolio
  • Discussion of Best Practices in the Collection Process
  • Collections strategies as they vary per portfolio type
  • Strategic Collection practices in general
  • Peer Networking & Open Forum Discussion of your loans and issues you face in your CU daily

Prize Linked Savings Roll-Out Webinar Added to Calendar

Can't make it to one of our three in-person meetings for Prize Linked Savings (PLS)? We've got you covered! Our team has added a webinar to the calendar for those who want to learn more about LCUL's PLS Program, the Lucky Lagniappe Savings Account. The webinar will take place on September 21 at 2:00 pm. We will also archive this webinar for anyone that is not able to attend it live.

What is Lucky Lagniappe Savings?
Lucky Lagniappe Savings  helps members build good savings habits with the added excitement. A Lucky Lagniappe Savings account is a club-like savings account which allows accountholders to earn entries into monthly and quarterly prize drawings. Interest and account value caps are set by each participating credit union, with a maximum of five prize-drawing entries per member, per month.

Lucky Lagniappe Savings is modeled after a national award-winning prize-linked savings product developed by Doorway to Dreams and the Filene Research Institute. Thanks to a state law passed in 2016 with the help of Senator Ed Price, Louisiana became one of several states throughout the country that allows credit unions to offer this product to members.  The program can help all credit union members build a financial safety net, but it was created specifically with new savers and the financially vulnerable in mind.
