L CUL Launches Exclusive Shopping Rewards Program That Benefits Members AND Credit Unions
LCUL is excited to announce the launch of  CU Perks , an exclusive exclusive shopping rewards program that rewards both members AND  affiliated  credit unions.

In partnership with Retail Benefits, a leading online deals provider, members can earn up to 40% in CU Perks shopping at the same stores they're shopping at today. The added benefit to this program is the opportunity for credit unions to receive rewards from purchases made by their members.

Steven Liberto, LCUL's Chief Administration Officer, commented, "We are excited to launch this program because it's one of a kind and a win-win for everyone. Not only will members earn CU Perks for shopping online, but credit unions will earn extra rewards on top of that."

LCUL will be providing an implementation toolkit for credit unions that provides everything needed to market CU Perks to their membership.

Retail benefits has partnered with thousands of retailers to offer Louisiana credit union members cash back on the online shopping they are already doing. Louisiana credit unions are automatically enrolled in the program with no cost to participate. The only investment for Louisiana credit unions is being a member of the League.

Louisiana State Senator Advocates for CUs at the National Level
The Louisiana Credit Union League has had the pleasure of meeting with Louisiana Senator John Kennedy to share the background of credit unions, what we are about, and what we are advocating for.

Now, the prominent Senator has stepped on a national platform and stressed the need for a reduction or elimination of Dodd Frank for smaller financial institutions.
Kennedy echoed our concerns that have been continually discussed with each visit, phone call and email.

"If we accomplish nothing else this year, I want to see us to get our community banks and credit unions out from under Dodd-Frank," said Sen. John Kennedy, R-La.

"It's times like this that make us realize how important our advocacy efforts are. If we aren't there sharing our story, someone else is. I applaud Louisiana credit unions for helping us bring light to the important issues such as this to our lawmakers," commented Anne Cochran, LCUL President/CEO.

CU Cooperative Branching

Conrad Elected Chairman of the Board for CU Cooperative Branching, LLC
We are pleased to announce that Jeff Conrad, CEO of Pelican State CU, has assumed the duties of Chairman of the Board of CU Cooperative Branching, LLC (CUCB), Louisiana's shared branching CUSO.

Jeff started his career with Pelican State CU thirty years ago, serving as CEO for the last twenty-two years. When he began, Pelican had nine employees and $52 million in assets. He has helped the credit union grow to employ more than 200 employees, open twelve branches across the state and increase its asset size to $300 million. Conrad has motivated his team to launch nationally-award winning financial education programs and progressive products that help bring their members from debt to asset building.

"The success of Pelican State CU is in large part to the dedication and commitment of its CEO. I'm confident in Jeff's ability to provide exceptional leadership as Chair of CUCB. His knowledge and experience will serve as a tremendous asset to the organization's continued success," commented Anne Cochran, President/CEO of LCUL/CUCB.

Also serving on the board of directors are:
  • Clark Yelverton, CSE FCU (Vice Chairman)
  • Darryl Long, Baton Rouge Telco FCU (Treasurer)
  • Dawn Harris, Campus FCU (Secretary)
  • Michael Hooper, La Capitol FCU

Welch, Fontenot, Baudoin Awarded CSE FCU Scholarship
CSE FCU recognized three deserving high school seniors with scholarship awards during the credit union's 73rd Annual Meeting on May 4. Tyler Welch, Taylor Fontenot, and Kayla Baudoin each received $1,000 to go toward their continued education at a college or vocational school program.

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of goals and aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an outside appraisal. Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship Management Services, the nation's largest designer and manager of scholarship and tuition reimbursement programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals.
Access of LA FCU Helps Make One Girls Dream Become Reality
Staff and volunteers of Access of Louisiana FCU recently donated items for two separate bake sale fundraisers for Rhiannon Rollins, a former Maplewood Middle School student who was awarded a special opportunity.

Rhiannon has been a Type 1 Diabetic since 2006, lost her father in 2012, and hasn't let anything get in the way of her dreams. Her mother describes her as "intelligent, mature, hardworking, dedicated, and a great student". Rhiannon was asked to represent Sulphur High 9th grade as a Delegate at the Congress of Future Science and Technology Leaders to be held in Boston this summer. Rhiannon must attend the event to receive the award with attendance being used towards college credits.

The credit union is a partner in education with Maplewood Middle School, who also donated items to the bake sale to help Rhiannon.  Donations from the bake sale totaled $933, which exceeded her goal.

"When this was brought to the credit union, we jumped at the chance to help without hesitation. Not only do we want to help our members financially succeed, but it's just as important to help achieve any other goals they have. This may be a small act of kindness, but it lead to a huge impact on a young girl's life. That's what credit unions are all about," commented Michelle Jinks, President/CEO of Access of LA FCU.
