LEC Becomes Founding Partner of Emerge Community Development Program's Electrical Training and Internship Program

January 28, 2014

Minneapolis, Minn - Today Laketown Electric became one of three founding partners in the state for the Electrical Internship Program created by the Emerge Community Development Program.  LEC has agreed to sponsor two interns that are currently enrolled at Dunwoody Technical College for a paid electrical internship and hands on training program.  With this commitment, LEC continues it's tradition of the investment, training and development of a vibrant and diverse workforce well into the future.

Mission and goals of the Emerge Program

With a mission of investing in people through social enterprise, EMERGE develops human capital by connecting disadvantaged individuals to economic opportunities. EMERGE implements holistic, solution driven strategies that draw from best practices and produce tangible results for individuals and families that are confronted with numerous barriers. Key goals include eliminating homelessness, promoting self-sufficiency, and creating economic activity and wealth.

Current programs, population served, & accomplishments.

EMERGE's 19 Workforce Development and Villages/housing programs annually serve 3,500+ diverse people who must overcome extraordinary obstacles in order to escape poverty and build brighter futures.  Of those served, 89% are people of color (majority African American), 87% are Hennepin County residents and 100% are enrolled as "low-income."
