LEC is Starting a Full Service
Low Voltage Division
hiring
LEC is still looking to hire a hands-on division manager to spearhead our new low voltage division.  We are looking for an individual well versed in fire alarms, voice/data/ CATV, and other basic systems. Candidates must have their power limited technician's license, five years of experience, and it is a major plus if they are certified by Commscope to install Commscope Systimax cabling. This person would lead a small team and must be capable of helping to specify systems in mostly design-build environments.

Contact Matt Bergmann at [email protected] if you know of any candidates that may be interested in this position.
Shingle Creek Charter School - A Case Study for LED 2x4 Fixtures & Wallpacks

LEC recently completed a charter school in North Minneapolis for Kipp: Northstar Academy, which was moving to a school closed by the City of Minneapolis in 2009 previously known as Shingle Creek Elementary.  A major remodel was to be undertaken this spring and summer to ready the school for students this August.  This 55,000 square foot school needed new interior and exterior lighting, rooftop units, security system, electrical panels, devices, circuits and fire alarm upgrades to meet code and create an accommodating learning environment.

By adding rooftop units, the school needed to replace worn ACT ceilings and grid, and therefore was evaluating what type of lighting to choose.  LEC put together a payback analysis and also applied for a custom Xcel Energy rebate and found that there was no reason to consider installing T8 systems given the payback period of one year, seven months to install LED systems.  That analysis is included here as a PDF.  LED wallpacks also replaced inefficient high pressure sodium fixtures, and we completed a payback analysis on this lighting as well here.

Economical and efficient,The Columbia 2x4 40w LED troffer, and the Cooper Crosstour 20w LED wallpack installed at Kipp Northstar Academy

Approximately 75% of LEC's new construction and remodeling revenue is from design-build projects, but it seems like architects and designers are missing the boat on LED fixtures as a standard in commercial and industrial applications.  Even when architects specify LED products, they often do not take owner's budgets into considerations in selecting suitable products per their project.  In order to understand the reasoning behind going with LED, we need to analyze lifecycle and fixture costs, which help us determine payback periods.  If you are looking to engage a company on the front end of your next project that isn't afraid to put extra legwork in to help you win, please reach out to us.
