IF YOU DRILL IT,  FILL IT!

The 2015 International Energy Conservation Code includes more stringent requirements regarding how tight a house needs to be.

The  Insulation Institute explains what these new air leakage standards mean and offers steps to help comply in this  blog post.

"Best practices reveal that sealing leaks during the framing stage is cost effective when labor is effectively utilized," the post says. "In this era of skilled labor shortages, preventive methods must not only be effective and inexpensive but must also be easy to install."

One key takeaway: If you drill it, fill it. Thinking ahead as you build will make you more aware of areas of potential air leakage.  Read more in the post.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

Governor's Tax Plan Released

The Governor Edwards released his tax plan this past week. The main feature of the proposed policy is imposing a gross receipts tax or Commercial Activity Tax (CAT) on business. Corporations and limited liability entities with more than $1,500,000 in taxable gross receipts would be subject to this 0.35% tax.  Cash discounts, returns and allowances deductions are allowed.   The CAT tax is expected to bring in $800-900 million in revenue.

In return, Governor Edwards proposes to phase out the Corporate Franchise Tax and lower corporate income tax rates.  The plan also calls to remove the 5th penny sales tax set to expire in 2018.  The governor also wants to lower the rates for individual fliers but eliminate the Federal Income Tax deduction for Individuals.  An expansion of sales tax on services is also in the suggested by the administration.

LHBA will monitor and plans to oppose any tax increase on business.

BUILD-PAC'S NEW "FAIR SHARE" PROGRAM

BUILD-PAC's new Fair Share campaign is the easiest way to get involved in the political process. We are asking every member to do their Fair Share for the housing industry by contributing just $25 to BUILD-PAC during the 2015-2016 election cycle.

What would happen if every NAHB member did their Fair Share?
If every member does their Fair Share and invests a minimum of $25, then BUILD-PAC will be a $3.5 Million PAC. This would allow BUILD-PAC and housing to have an even greater impact in the 2016 elections.

What is my Fair Share going toward?
Your contribution helps elect pro-housing, pro-business candidates who will support our issues and fight for housing in Congress.

How can I help with the Fair Share campaign?
Please help your state meet its goal. During your state and local meetings back home, ask your peers to do their Fair Share for housing by contributing just $25 to BUILD-PAC in this election cycle. If every member does their Fair Share, then BUILD-PAC's voice will be LOUDER and STRONGER than ever before.

Questions? For more information contact BUILD-PAC staff.
