Insurance Clarity Act Begins in 2015

 

Act 427 of the 2014 Legislative Session requires homeowner's insurers to provide pertinent consumer data to the commissioner of insurance. This act sponsored by Rep. Leopold will now mandate disclosure of direct incurred losses, number of policies in force, and direct earned premiums.  General ratemaking methodology used to establish homeowner's insurance rates will also be divulged.


 

The Clarity Act, supported by LHBA, was modeled after similar legislation passed in Alabama.  Louisiana's act will increase consumers' understanding of property insurance premiums.  The collected data will be published by zip code and parish on the Department of Insurance website.
