Steve Manginell Outreach Coordinator

WELCOME                     STEVE MANGINELL          OUTREACH COORDINATOR

The Lumber Heritage Region (LHR) has hired Steve Manginell as Outreach Coordinator for the organization. Steve will be working to make the LHR and the work of the organization more visible in the region. Historically the organization has worked more or less behind the scenes developing, with our partners, heritage tourism related assets. With Steve on board, the LHR will be working to use those assets and others to share the stories of our rich history and heritage to the benefit of those of us who live here and to create a value laden destination for those who would visit.

SAYING GOOD-BYE

Val Shelley

The LHR will be saying good bye to Val Shelley when she retires in December. Val has been with the organization since 2008, starting out as the Administrative Assistant for both the LHR and the Pennsylvania Wilds Planning Team. In a short time they capitalized on her excellent organizational skills and promoted her to Project Manager overseeing the various grants for both organizations. Val is looking forward to spending more time fishing and getting in some travel. We are sending along our best wishes for a happy retirement.  She will be greatly missed.

2014 YEAR IN REVIEW
"WOOD ON GLASS" EXHIBIT

2014 has been another exciting year for the LHR. A summary of projects include a 16 project $60K mini-grant program in various stages of completion; an interpretive trail signage project nearing completion; participation in several Civilian Conservation Corps annual reunions; LHR's 19th Century "Wood on Glass" lumber photograph exhibit being viewed by over 800 people in several venues; technical support and fund raising projects for PA Lumber Museum Associates (PALMA); began work on updating the LHR Management Action Plan - the blueprint for the future of the organization; created the LHR Outreach Coordinator position and much more. LHR's work in the Region continues with the goal being an enhanced quality of life for those who live here and a value laden destination for those who visit.

WHATS COMING IN THE NEW YEAR

2015 is looking to be a game changing year for the LHR.  With the expected completion of the Management Action Plan, a new and expanded course for the organization is anticipated. Historically the LHR has worked with partners behind the scenes to create heritage tourism related assets throughout the Region. Now, with more than 60 of these assets in place, plus those created by the PA Wilds, DCNR, PHMC, and various local municipalities, it is time to use those assets to share the rich history and heritage of the Region. This will be done through a new website, the use of social media, print, travel itineraries, and various programs that will be presented by the organization. The goal is to enhance the sense of pride for those of us who live here and to entice visitors to come explore the region. You will be hearing from us!
