Applications for the 2018-2019 LISA Academy school year are now available on our website. The Deadline is on February 4, 2018. If you would like to get to know our school a little better before applying, please come see us at one of our open houses. You can find available dates on our calendar at the bottom of the newsletter! When you reach the website, pick the school you wish to apply to and you will see a green button that says "Apply Now."
LISA Academy Hosts 2017 Math Tournament
LISA Academy is honored to have hosted the 3rd Annual Central Arkansas Math Tournament on Saturday, December 2, 2017. Fifth grade students traveled to Little Rock to demonstrate their knowledge and perseverance in problem solving and mathematical calculation. There were 281 students from 39 schools who participated in the competition from 39 school campuses across the state. 

After the competition, students and families had the opportunity to view and participate in STEM demonstrations from LISA Academy students. The LISA Academy Chenal Student Chorus Ensemble Performed, and the Spanish dance team from LISA Academy West performed for the crowd. 

Each competitor received a certificate of participation, and the top 10 students were recognized for their achievements. The results of the competition and a photo gallery can be found online by clicking the button below. LISA Academy is proud of the diligence and dedication shown by these students and families. 
Science Fair
The 2017 Science Fair kicked off with an overwhelming amount of incredible projects created by our students. Each project took time, attention to detail, and multiple trial and error test. Our yearly science fair is one of our favorite STEM event, because it challenges our students to think outside of the classroom. This annual event also allows them to participate in a project they are passionate and curious about.
2017-2018 Solar Car Team
The Solar Car Team at LISA North is making great progress on their development of what they intend to be a fully functional solar car. The team anticipates having the car finished by early spring, allowing them to enter it in a competition that will be taking place during July in Texas. The students on the team have worked independently to design, build, and raise funds for this project through research and the advice of professionals. We can't wait to see the finished product!
First Lego League Advances to State Competition
On December 9, Mr. Alafa and the Robotics Club from LISA North and West Middle School attended the First Lego League Robotics Competition. The teams gave an excellent performance within the core values, robot design, and robot programming categories. During the process of preparing for this competition, the teams learned new building, programming, collaborative and design skills. The LISA North team came home with the Core Values Award and Mr. Alafa was given the Coach/Mentoring Award, LISA North also advanced to compete in the Arkansas State Championship in Fayetteville on January 20, 2018!
CRLP Camping Trip
In November there were 35 boys and 39 girls from LISA Academy that attended the College Readiness and Leadership Program (CRLP) retreat at the 4h-Center.

CRLP is a volunteer mentoring program designed to prepare exemplary students for entrance into the top universities. These universities have the ability to create exceptional leaders and career driven graduates. CRLP is a year long program for 6 - 12 grade students. With this program, we will be able to prepare our students in the areas of academics, sports, character, and leadership education.
Parent Academy will offer informational workshops for participants to acquire useful knowledge to help meet the needs of their students.

Tentative sessions include but are not limited to the following topics:
  • College Readiness, College Counseling
  • Teen Suicide Prevention
  • Drug Prevention, Opioid Epidemic
  • Personal Finance
  • Cyber World and Cyber Security
  • Eating Healthy/Obesity

Arkansas STEM Festival
The Arkansas STEM Festival is an incredible event due to the sheer number of benefits and experiences it provides. The 100+ engaging demonstrations at the festival are a sight to behold! It is among the largest meetings of the Arkansas STEM community in the entire state. It is an ideal field trip destination, because it's completely free and highly educational for students and people of all ages. Presenting students obtain numerous valuable experiences including presenting their work to a large and engaging audience, meeting and discussing STEM with experts, teaching others about STEM, learning about STEM from others and from STEM-focused companies, hearing influential STEM figures speak, and having the opportunity to be recognized for their work! The next Arkansas STEM Festival will beheld on Friday, March 9, 2018!
